THE POSITION

The Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking a skilled and compassionate Nurse Manager 1 to join our dedicated nursing team. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position oversees a full range of nursing care and services within assigned hospital units to ensure safety, compliance, and quality treatment for the individuals served. Through your work, you will cultivate strong teamwork, effective care coordination, and consistent application of nursing policies. Within this role is it essential to prioritize and ensure compliance with the expectations set forth by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). As a Nurse Manager 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Team Leadership: Supervise nursing staff, assign work, evaluate staff performance, and support daily hospital operations
  • Care Coordination: Direct and evaluate nursing services to ensure quality treatment and compliance with regulations
  • Policy Oversight: Implement and interpret nursing policies, procedures, and performance improvement measures
  • Cross-Department Work: Coordinate with security, administration, and interdisciplinary clinical teams to support and enhance patient care
  • Training Support: Review training needs, participate in staff development, and represent the nursing department on committees
  • Administrative Duties: Manage staffing patterns, document actions, and assist with labor relations and reporting

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours/week
  • Work hours are 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, with a 30-minute lunch. Scheduled work days will vary.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years as a Registered Nurse Supervisor or three years as a Registered Nurse Instructor (Commonwealth job titles or equivalent Federal Government job titles, as determined by the Office of Administration) in a facility providing care and services for people with a mental or physical injury, illness, or developmental disability; or
  • Six years of professional nursing experience, which includes one year in a supervisory or consultative capacity providing nursing care and services for people with a mental or physical injury, illness, or developmental disability; and a bachelor's degree in nursing, nursing education, or nursing administration. A master's degree in nursing, nursing education, or nursing administration may be substituted for up to one year of the required general professional nursing work experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year in a supervisory or consultative capacity providing nursing care and services for people with a mental or physical injury, illness, or developmental disability.

Special Requirement:

  • All positions require active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
  • All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
