Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Supervisor and Manager for Paint/Sign/Roofing/Mason Shops, maintain, repair, design, modify and/or alter masonry, concrete: cutting coring or pouring, tile work, brick, concrete set up and finishing, walkways, retaining walls etc. of buildings, walkways, and related structures and facilities. Set-up job by collecting and preparing supplies and equipment used in all phases of masonry using: cement mixers, stones, brick mortar, shovels, wood strips, nails, adhesives etc. Inspect all complete projects and submit all labor and material charges appropriately. Apprise supervisor of job progress and to resolve any problem(s) related to the job. Provide direction to semi-skilled and unskilled workers. Established safety procedures at all times.

Qualifications

  • 5 years Concrete set up and finishing (Required)
  • Working knowledge of the materials, equipment, methods, and tools of the mason's trade. (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to perform as an operational journey-level Mason. (Required)
  • Ability to: install, maintain, and repair concrete, stone, brick, marble surfaces etc.; read, interpret and understand technical language in specifications, schematics, and blueprints (Required)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of operational journey-level tile setting. (Required)
  • Ability to recognize problems and signs of damage or deterioration in masonry surfaces of building foundations, walkways, retaining walls etc. (Required)
  • Ability to operate various standard tools and equipment of the masonry trade such as core-boring machine, cement mixer, air compressor, jackhammer etc.; work at heights and walk on sloped roofs. (Required)
  • Skill in: modifying and/or adapting designs, procedures or methods to make necessary alterations and modifications; estimating material and labor requirements to accomplish tasks; adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing 4-digit numbers and fractions in order to calculate layouts, offsets, and provide accurate cost calculations to Supervisor. (Required)
  • Ability to: establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with peers, subordinates, supervisors, administrators, customers, visitors and outside agencies; use oral communication skills to obtain or convey clear, concise and grammatically correct information; work independently and follow through on assignments. (Required)
  • Skill in writing simple English phrases using correct grammar and spelling to complete reports that are accurate and easy to comprehend. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of: standard safe work practices; UBC, OSHA and ADA requirements as it relates to the function, and the ability to recognize discrepancies of ADA and Fire/Life/Safety codes at each job and report to Supervisor. (Required)
  • Ability to: stand, crawl, walk and stoop; push and pull and lift object up to 50 lbs; push and pull lift and lower object weighing up to 90 lbs. with assistance; work outdoors in wet or humid weather, and in fluctuating and/or extreme temperatures or under adverse situations and conditions, e.g. dirty, noisy, etc. (Required)

  • Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

  • Other Type of Degree Satisfactory completion of a certified trade-related apprenticeship program or equivalent experience and education. (Required)
  • Must possess, upon hire, and maintain a valid CA noncommercial Class C License in accordance with the California (CA) Department of Motor Vehicles. (Required)

  • Age Requirement: Candidate(s) must be 18 years or older to be eligible to be hired.
