Idaho National Laboratory needs Nuclear Facility Planners to evaluate maintenance work requests and develop maintenance work plans that include requirements for materials, labor, safety considerations, environmental compliance, special work permits, outages, and more. This role involves sequential planning of tasks, specification and acquisition of labor, tools, materials, and equipment; scheduling, monitoring, expediting, and reporting progress. You will obtain job materials and tools and/or equipment and coordinate support crafts, operations, and technical support to ensure efficient execution of maintenance work. You will manage incoming maintenance work requests, convert them into work orders, appropriately categorize requests, create appropriate work order types, and mitigate hazards. This position also requires strong self-motivation, professionalism, mentorship capabilities, and HVAC knowledge to support facility needs and team growth.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Write work instructions (fitter, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control, etc.) for assigned Nuclear Facility equipment that provide safe, workable, and complete instructions for skilled maintenance craftsmen utilizing the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Ensure written instructions comply with established INL controlling documents for the work control process, and with Quality, Training, Environmental, Industrial Hygiene, Radiological, Safety and Health, and other applicable regulatory agencies' requirements. Ensure that work instructions are clear and concisely written to be performed by the craftsmen.
  • Serve as the single point of contact for resolving issues for each assigned WO from initiation to completion.
  • Take responsibility for the work order (WO) development, documentation, and content based upon work control procedures.
  • Ensure appropriate worker involvement, feedback, and continuous improvement are part of the work control process. Plan, develop, resolve comments, obtain approvals, resolve issues for scheduling, and make WO changes to WOs using company documents and accepted industry practices.
  • Select and apply engineering techniques to solve complex "scope of work" issues and lead/participate in planning teams during the work order planning process.
  • Ensure the proper composition of planning teams.
  • Evaluate the WO hazard control sets and detailed work instructions for completeness and accuracy with respect to practical field application by performing jobsite walk-downs.
  • Procure and stage the materials with assistance from the material coordinators. Plan, develop, resolve comments, obtain approvals, issue for scheduling, and make WO changes to WOs using company documents and accepted industry practices.

  • Apply HVAC knowledge and experience to the planning, evaluation, and troubleshooting of facility maintenance activities involving heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.

Required:

  • Level 2: Bachelor's degree in a technical field and 2 years of relevant experience, an advanced degree in a technical field, or 8 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Level 3: Bachelor's degree in a technical field and 5 years of relevant experience, an advanced degree in a technical field and 2 years of relevant experience, or 11 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE level 'L' clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Understanding of principles, concepts, and practices of the work control process.
  • Knowledge of the Davis-Bacon Act.
  • Experience with HVAC systems in industrial, laboratory, or nuclear facilities.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office and field/laboratory environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds without assistance. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with the public is required. Job Information:

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Nuclear Facility Planner to work on our Advanced Test Reactor (ATR) Planning and Material Support team. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our ATR complex with every Friday off.

  • The pay range for this position is: Level 2 ($66,504 - $136,356) / Level 3 ($79,344 - $162,732). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
