Job Summary
The Lead Inventory and Receiving Specialist is responsible for supporting Operating Room operations through the procurement, inventory management, replenishment, and distribution of surgical supplies and materials. This role ensures supplies are available in the right quantity, at the right location, and at the right time to support efficient procedural operations and patient care activities.

The position partners closely with Operating Room leadership, Supply Chain, and vendors to maintain inventory accuracy, monitor stock levels, address supply issues, and support daily operational readiness. The Lead Inventory and Receiving Specialist also provides day-to-day oversight and guidance to materials staff involved in inventory replenishment and supply distribution activities. Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  • Manage operating room supplies utilized for case cart picking, including inventory monitoring, procurement, replenishment, and stock rotation.
  • Partner with the Operating Room Materials Manager to identify inventory needs and coordinate supply chain procurement activities to maintain appropriate stock levels.
  • Oversee and assist with the restocking and delivery of supplies to Central Processing Department (CPD), operating rooms, and designated procedural areas.
  • Provide guidance and support to materials staff related to inventory management, receiving, and replenishment processes.
  • Maintain inventory systems and handheld devices, including updating par levels, adding new products, and removing discontinued items.
  • Prepare purchase requisitions for non-stock items, bill-only products, specialty carts, and special order supplies as directed.
  • Communicate supply shortages, recalls, backorders, overstock concerns, and urgent inventory issues to OR leadership and Supply Chain leadership.
  • Monitor rotating inventory stock and assist with monthly outdate reviews and inventory audits.
  • Participate in departmental physical inventories and inventory reconciliation activities.
  • Respond to supply-related requests from staff and escalate urgent operational concerns appropriately.
  • Participate in daily operational huddles to review surgical schedules and identify inventory-related concerns impacting procedural readiness.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Supply Chain staff to maintain accurate product listings and support inventory-related system requests.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with surgeons, clinical staff, vendors, and operational leadership to support efficient OR operations.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of supply chain, inventory management, or materials management experience required.
  • Experience supporting operating room, surgical, or procedural supply operations preferred.
  • Prior lead or supervisory experience preferred.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Associate degree in Supply Chain Management, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Experience working in a hospital or healthcare environment preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of inventory management and supply replenishment practices within a healthcare or surgical environment.
  • Ability to prioritize inventory needs and respond effectively in a fast-paced operating room setting.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to provide direction, training, and support to materials staff.
  • Working knowledge of inventory and procurement systems such as Infor or similar ERP platforms.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Knowledge of surgical procedures, case carts, and preference card processes preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and inventory accuracy.
  • Ability to analyze supply usage trends and resolve inventory-related issues effectively.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with clinical staff, vendors, and operational leadership.

Special Working Conditions

  • May require occasional lifting, pushing, or moving of inventory and supply items.
  • Position operates in a hospital and operating room support environment.
  • May require schedule flexibility based on operational needs.

Physical and Environmental Demands

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and repetitive hand movements.
  • Ability to move supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
  • Work performed primarily in a hospital environment with exposure to standard healthcare operational conditions.

Compensation Range:

$19.72- $29.30

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer.
