Summary:

As the Shipping Supervisor (3rd Shift), you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of our employees and our products. Additionally, this position is responsible for directing and managing the activities of hourly production personnel while ensuring the safe and effective meetings of the needs of their departments/areas in the plant. In addition, the supervisor is responsible for adhering to the employee handbook and complying with regulatory requirements, company and plant policies, procedures, and rules in their area of responsibility. To be considered, you must also be flexible for all shifts and weekend work. Overtime will be required.

In addition, the Shipping Supervisor will:




  • Independently perform all assignments except the most complex or unusual, only being given instructions as to the general results expected.
  • Complete investigations and develop plans to address problems identified that impact safety, quality, or productivity within assigned areas.
  • Be responsible for direction and management of hourly production personnel while safely and effectively meet the needs of their departments/areas in the plant.
  • Resolves routine manufacturing, shipping, and maintenance issues via our established escalation process and resource allocation.
  • The position requires weekend work as assigned
  • This is an off shift position with some work on day shift as well, you will primarily work 3rd shift (generally 10:00 pm - 7:30 am), you must also be flexible in the event your shift assignment is changed in the future.



Responsibilities:



  • Ensure that the area of responsibility supports all plant goals daily and weekly reviewing results with staff
  • Coordinate and administer daily interaction between the assigned area of responsibility and all other departments in the plant.This would include peers across shifts.
  • Ensure that personnel have proper qualifications, are properly trained, and motivated to work productively both as part of a team and individually
  • Ensure compliance with established standards in the areas of food quality & safety and employee safety. Identify and implement opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with administrative and reporting procedures while complying with overtime and provisions of the handbook
  • Coordinate labor staffing on a daily basis in coherence with budgeted staffing
  • Document notification requests in SAP PM.Follow-up and prioritize with maintenance and other shifts.
  • Input data into SAP, check QA documentation, and verify employee timecards
  • Analyze information and follow-up on exceptions and opportunities
  • Foster a continuous improvement mindset, elevating new ideas (both your own and those of your employees), and executing plans to positively impact the plant operations and goals



Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform major duties/responsibilities:



  • Operational support; coaching and development of team members.
  • Review, prioritization, and execution of daily operations.
  • Staffing, maintaining time cards and attendance records.
  • Supporting Hershey Lean Initiatives; ensure the area of responsibility supports all plant goals daily and weekly; reviewing results with teams, executing daily huddle communications.
  • Ensure that personnel have proper qualifications, are properly trained, and motivated to work productively both as part of a team and individually
  • Coordinate and administer daily interaction between the assigned area of responsibility and all other departments in the plant. This would include peers across shifts.
  • Ensure compliance with established standards in the areas of food quality & safety and employee safety. Identify and implement opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with administrative and reporting procedures while complying with overtime and provisions of the handbook
  • Coordinate labor staffing on a daily basis in coherence with budgeted staffing. Document exceptions and pursue approval if cost justified. Champion, coordinate and implement opportunities for improvement.
  • Document notification requests in SAP PM. Follow-up and prioritize with maintenance and other shifts.
  • Input data into SAP, check QA paperwork, and timekeeper information each shift. Analyze information and follow-up on exceptions and opportunities. Identify, coordinate and implement opportunities for improvements and participate in budget/standards review process. Analyze information and follow-up on exceptions and opportunities
  • Effectively and timely communicate appropriate information daily, weekly and monthly to all direct reports and peers by utilizing informal and formal communications - one on ones, huddles, meetings, postings, etc.
  • Foster a continuous improvement mindset, elevating new ideas (both your own and those of your employees), and executing plans to positively impact the plant operations and goals
  • Lead/coordinate preparation of communications for area/plant
  • Excellent people and leadership skills
  • Strong change management skills, driving and implementing change to optimize the business focusing on safety, quality and costs
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Problem solving and decision-making abilities
  • Ability to work with and relate to all levels of personnel
  • Ability to read/interpret production performance reports



Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Education:



  • Bachelor's Degree preferred



Experience:



  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing or in a high speed, complex environment required
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite required
  • Minimum of 1 year in a supervisory capacity preferred in a logististics environment
  • Food manufacturing experience preferred
  • SAP experience preferred
  • Knowledge of shipping industry standards and government shipping regulations preferred
