Primary Purpose of Department
The Graduate School at UNC Charlotte fosters excellence in all dimensions of post-baccalaureate studies and is the primary advocate for graduate education and for graduate students at the University. Established in 1985, the Graduate School offers 26 doctoral, 65 master's degree programs, and more than 30 graduate certificate programs in a wide variety of fields and specialties ranging from architecture, biomedical engineering, computing, engineering, and health administration to history, teacher education, creative writing, business, nursing, and social work. The Graduate School also supports the University and region through the UNC Charlotte Graduate Center. The Graduate School has over 700 members of the Regular Graduate Faculty teaching and mentoring more than 5,000 graduate students who come from nearly every state in the union and from a variety of countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, Central and South America.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Director of the Reynolds Center for Graduate Life & Learning ( CGLL) is responsible for establishing a strategic vision for the Center that aligns with the Graduate School's strategic plan and supports the goals of graduate academic and student affairs. The Director manages the daily operations of the Center for Graduate Life and Learning, a space dedicated to serving the 5,500 graduate students on campus. The CGLL is intended to be the center of our graduate student community, providing opportunities for interdisciplinary interaction and research, as well as training and professional development. The Director oversees initiatives and professional development designed to support doctoral, master's, and certificate students, while managing the staff who support those efforts.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
Define, promote and manage professional development initiatives for graduate students; direct strategic and daily operations of the CGLL; facilitate guest lectures; create and expand opportunities for collaboration with campus and external partners; oversee and lead assessment efforts; oversee planning for major events, such as the Graduate Student Orientation, doctoral commencement, etc; oversee advising of the Graduate and Professional Student Government; collaborate with the Graduate School's Business Officer on the management of the CGLL budget. Manage administrative and record-related efforts, as well as academic projects.
Minimum Education/Experience
A graduate degree from an accredited university or college; prior experience in higher education administration; prior supervisory experience.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
A doctoral degree in Higher Educational Leadership or similar field is preferred. Experience working with graduate and/or professional students.
