The Department of Admissions and Recruitment within the Division of Enrollment Management at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Vice President of Enrollment and Admissions. About the Opportunity The Assistant Vice President (AVP) for Enrollment Management and Admissions provides executive leadership, vision, and operational oversight for all undergraduate admissions functions at West Virginia University. Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Management, the AVP serves as a key member of the Enrollment Management Executive Leadership Team and oversees a robust departmental structure, with the Executive Director for Recruitment, the Executive Director for Student Experience, and the Executive Director for Admissions Operations & Systems reporting directly to this role. The AVP is responsible for advancing campus-wide recruitment strategy, admissions operations, and student pipeline initiatives, leading comprehensive outreach for first-year, transfer, international, and online populations in alignment with institutional goals. What You'll Do Strategic Leadership & Enrollment Outcomes
- Provide executive leadership for the University's undergraduate recruitment enterprise, directing a comprehensive strategy to expand market share and optimize the student pipeline.
- Utilize analytics, forecasting, and market intelligence to shape the application funnel, strengthen conversion outcomes, and guide long-term enrollment planning.
- Lead strategies for key populations, including identifying new opportunities for enrollment growth, supporting WVU's in-state access mission, and expanding strategic global pipelines.
- Drive the growth and stability of the transfer ecosystem by cultivating community college partnerships and elevating Pathway Programs to increase transfer student enrollment yield and success.
- Provide executive oversight and supervision for admissions, leadership and professional staff, ensuring clear goals, operational excellence, and a culture of accountability.
Admissions Operations & Application Management
- Set the strategic framework for streamlining the enrollment funnel, leveraging technology to automate workflows, segment populations, and enhance applicant communications.
- Oversee application processing, evaluation workflows, and decision release for all student types, ensuring all pathways are efficient and provide actionable reporting.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation, identifying ways to enhance the student application experience while maintaining strict compliance with institutional, state, and federal requirements.
- Align admissions operations with broader data governance, reporting standards, and institutional analytics needs.
Student Experience & Transition
- Provide executive oversight and strategic direction for the holistic student journey, ensuring a seamless transition from initial prospect engagement through final enrollment.
- Lead the vision for high-impact campus visit programs and recruitment events-including tours, open houses, and specialized off-campus engagements-to align with institutional branding and yield goals.
- Direct the strategic alignment of New Student Orientation, overseeing the transition experience to ensure incoming students and families are successfully integrated into the university community.
- Supervise and empower leadership responsible for visit and transition programs, providing the resources and KPI frameworks necessary to elevate the visitor experience.
Vendor Management & Strategic Partnerships
- Serve as the primary executive liaison for external enrollment partners and service providers, ensuring all third-party integrations align with university strategic priorities.
- Oversee the selection, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of critical vendor relationships including College Board (SAT), ACT, Encoura, Common Application, EAB, etc.
- Direct the strategic acquisition and oversee licensing of student names and data from testing and search agencies to expand the university's global recruitment reach.
Collaboration & Campus Partnerships
- Build and maintain executive-level partnerships with Academic Colleges, Student Life, Academic Affairs, and the Foundation to align recruitment efforts with academic capacity.
- Coordinate enrollment strategies with academic onboarding processes and student success initiatives.
- Partner with Strategic Communications & Marketing to drive the deployment of data-driven marketing and yield strategies designed to achieve long-term brand objectives.
- Participate in cross-campus planning committees to integrate recruitment strategy into long-range academic and institutional planning.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred.
- A minimum of ten (10) years of extensive experience involving undergraduate recruitment including first-year, transfer, and international, admissions operations, and executive leadership within a higher education setting.
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Proven ability to lead a high-performing recruitment organization and set strategic frameworks for enrollment growth.
- Advanced understanding of admissions technology and the ability to leverage automated workflows and actionable reporting.
- Expertise in vendor contract negotiation and the strategic licensing of domestic and international student data.
- Strong collaborative skills to build partnerships across academic and administrative units.
