Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic

This position focuses on maintaining and repairing a wide variety of vehicles and equipment that support daily transportation operations. You will play an important role in ensuring safe, dependable service for the agency and the public. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:

• Equipment Repair Work: Repair and overhaul cars, trucks, tractors, and heavy equipment
• Preventative Maintenance: Carry out routine servicing and system checks to keep vehicles operating safely
• Diagnostic Procedures: Identify mechanical issues through proper testing and evaluation methods
• State Inspection Tasks: Complete official safety and emissions inspections and prepare required documentation
• Safety Practices: Maintain a clean work area, follow safety procedures, and recognize workplace hazards
• Record Management: Keep accurate equipment records and report findings in written and oral form

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Shifts may vary seasonally, due to weather, or based on operational needs.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $55,492 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

• This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed, or equivalent.
• This position requires possession of an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of employment.
• All positions require possession of an active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification during the probationary period.
• This position requires employees to pass the Department of Transportation's New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
