Job Title: Scientific Lead for Neuroscience, COMBAT Medicine Research Center

Job Summary:

The COMBAT Medicine Research Center is seeking an experienced scientific researcher for the role of Scientific Lead for Neuroscience. In this role, the successful candidate will serve as subject matter expert for neuroscience research, particularly related to traumatic brain injury, other forms of neuronal injury, and other neurobiological processes and pathologies related to military service. The successful candidate will contribute their expertise related to identification of physiologic and injury mechanisms, novel opportunities for therapeutic interventions, and translating preclinical results into human studies.

All applicants must either hold a faculty role at CU or be able to obtain a faculty role at CU at the time of hire.

For the selected candidate, the COMBAT Medicine Research Center will:

1. Provide education and opportunities pertaining to DOD funding mechanisms, application processes, military medicine, and military operations

2. Support in the development of DOD proposals, throughout the Preaward and Postaward process

3. Work to disseminate Neuroscience research findings to critical stakeholders, and provide dissemination and implementation expertise

4. Make opportunities available for the candidate to present their research, and COMBAT's neuroscience portfolio, to VIP guests from the DOD and other federal agencies, including funding sponsor offices, military operational medical providers, and key leaders and decision-makers

5. Support attendance at COMBAT relevant meetings and conferences as able.

Key Responsibilities:

* Participate in weekly COMBAT Medicine Research Center meetings.

* Contribute to the COMBAT Medicine Research Center's strategic direction.

* Attend meetings organized by the COMBAT Medicine Research Center with funding sponsors, federal program leaders, and other relevant stakeholders and provide informational briefings on Neuroscience research within the center.

* Provide input to other COMBAT Associated Investigators developing research relevant to Neuroscience; the candidate's contributions would be reflected in inclusion as key personnel, as appropriate.

* Contribute expertise around biomedical innovation and developing collaboration with industry partners.

* In alignment with developing the next generation of researchers, the candidate will be asked to serve as a mentor for COMBAT Scholars interested in pursuing neuroscience research, including support of manuscript and presentation development.

Work Location:

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

* 10 or more years of experience leading research pertaining to preclinical and translational neuroscience research, especially pertaining to neuronal injury and models of traumatic brain injury.

* Previous DOD funding.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience in research strategy development and biomedical innovation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of mechanisms of neuronal injury and identification of therapeutic targets.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.

Anticipated Stipend:

The stipend for this role has been established at $20,000.

The above stipend represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
