What to Expect
Tesla's Cell Cathode Engineering Team is recruiting for an Engineering Technician with hands-on chemistry/powder processing lab experience. This position will focus on the development and scale-up of cathode active material synthesis. A successful candidate will be a key team member of material development and evaluation team, focusing on daily equipment/unit development and laboratory operations.
What You'll Do
- Assist engineers and other technicians to run chemical processes including chemical reactions, slurry formation, calcination, and different milling operations
- Perform instruments maintenance/repair and troubleshooting, common chemical waste handling
- Document all procedure, reagents, key observation and key experimental record data
- Troubleshoot and keep maintenance log of all lab equipment
- Assist in designing, building, commissioning new laboratory setups
- Assist in data analysis and compiling
- Work to identify and optimize process conditions as well as evaluate new reagent/material, process technology and equipment
- Adhere to company policies of safety and conduct
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Chemical, Material, or other related engineering areas, and/or demonstrated equivalence in work experience associated with the role
- Experience in chemistry, hands-on laboratory pilot operation and equipment maintenance
- Team collaboration and results delivery on schedule.Excellent documentation and written communication
- Knowledge of analytical tests, such as XRD, ICP, particle size distribution, and surface area and their data analysis is a plus
- Experience of executing and designing controlled experiments including DOE is a plus.Experience of high temperature, solid handling process and operation is a plus
- Basic knowledge of inorganic chemistry, phase identification and reaction stoichiometry is a plus
- Creative approach to problem solving, with willingness to learn and try new things.Familiar with Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
Essential Physical Demands:
- Ability to performphysically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day
- Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day, including over varied and uneven terrain
- Climb stairs, stand for extended periods of time, and safely lift up to 50 pounds
- Frequently and repetitively, bend, lift and reach
- Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours a day
- Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures
- Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, or hearing
- Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: PAPR, safety glasses, safety shoes, bump caps, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines
