Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Leadership Gifts, the Senior Leadership Gift Officer (SLGO) is a frontline fundraising leader within MaineHealth's Southern Region responsible for securing leadership-level philanthropic support in alignment with MaineHealth's top strategic priorities. This role manages a portfolio of high-capacity donors and prospects while supervising and mentoring leadership gift team members.

The Senior Leadership Gift Officer serves as a campaign manager for MaineHealth's southern region, currently leading a $10M campaign focused on scholarship expansion for MaineHealth's undergraduate medical education program. Additional priority initiatives where the SLGO is expected to be a key contributor include graduate medical education, clinical and biomedical research, precision medicine, and capital expansion for orthopedic surgery. The SLGO is expected to secure a minimum of $1M annually in leadership gift commitments.

As a senior-level professional within the Southern Region philanthropy team, the SLGO serves as primary philanthropy liaison to C-suite-led departments and clinical service lines, including Medical Education, with a strong emphasis on grateful patient and family philanthropy. In partnership with clinical and administrative leaders, the SLGO plays a critical role in advancing MaineHealth's culture of philanthropy and long-term mission.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible development experience, ideally with a background of raising funds in a healthcare or academic medical center setting.
  • Demonstrated success securing six figure gifts.
  • Experience leading or contributing significantly to comprehensive or leadership gift campaigns.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of planned giving vehicles preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and relationship building skills; the ability to present complex information in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Abilityto lead and mentor team members in support of shared portfolio goals.
  • Flexibility to travel, when necessary, both in and out of state.

Key Responsibilities:

Portfolio & Moves Management:

  • Oversee the identification, cultivation, and stewardship of a portfolio of 100-150 leadership gift prospects.
  • Develop customized donor strategies to move each prospect toward a leadership gift commitment aligned with MaineHealth's strategic priorities and philanthropic initiatives.

Proposal Development

  • Achieve annual targets for leadership gift proposal development and submission.

Funds Secured

  • Achieve annual targets for secured leadership gift commitments raising a minimum of $1M per year.
  • Contribute materially to multi-year campaign goals through leadership gifts and strategic solicitation planning.

Campaign and Service Line Management

  • Serve as campaign manager for the Southern Region leadership gifts team.
  • Lead fundraising strategy and execution for the undergraduate medical education scholarship campaign.
  • Act as primaryphilanthropy liaison to the Medical Education department.
  • Achieve annual targets for service line liaison work as a part of MaineHealth's culture of gratitude program focusing on grateful patient and family philanthropy

Management

  • People management responsibilities as needed.
