Hourly Rate: $19.00 to $23.00
Job Summary: The Store Manager directs the activities of the retail thrift store and production floor to ensure maximum revenues, effectiveness and profitability, and are accountable for customer satisfaction and employee morale. As Store Manager your role will be to develop, train and lead the Retail Team. The Store Manager must also meet or exceed their assigned goals in production, sales, and income. They are responsible for creating and maintaining the store schedule with job responsibilities/assignments, provide supervision of store staff in the daily responsibilities of meeting daily production and sales goals, merchandise organization, and customer service, while also maintaining a clean organized retail setting. The Store Manager will be responsible for all daily activities in the store and report directly to the Maui County Coordinator / Kahului Corps Officer.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for driving an increase in annual store remittance as directed by the Maui County Coordinator / Kahului Corps Officer, while balancing store operational expenses as projected by the store's current fiscal year budget goals. Maintain, post weekly goal projections/actual sales revenue. Communicate objectives in a clear, concise manner that engages all staff and volunteers. Lead, coach and mentor store team in the methods, tools that will enable every individual member the opportunity to participate and achieve the goals and standards expected for a successful team operation.
1. Personnel
A. The Store Manager (herein after denoted as SM) will be responsible for supervision and coaching of all staff in their performance of duties to ensure compliance with directives and guidelines, including dress policy, purchasing procedures, cell phone use, timecard reporting, etc.
B. The SM is responsible for maintaining appropriate staffing levels. Interviewing and hiring new store employees, along with the Maui County Coordinator / Kahului Corps Officer, with the objective a developing a team environment that fosters the development of high operational standards. Select, train, coach and schedule personnel (employees, work program participants and volunteers) to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness.
C. Provide ongoing training and coaching for new and existing personnel (paid & volunteer) on store policies and procedures, while maintaining or exceeding the level of customer service expected by The Salvation Army. Convey clear, concise communication with specific direction to ensure understanding and expectations.
D. The SM will provide regularly scheduled monthly staff meetings, with all store personnel to present, to provide consistent communication to help achieve the store goals and drive sales. Seek open dialogue for staff suggestions and recommendations for improving operations. Monthly meeting notes with summary and discussion notes should be kept on file, with a copy given to the Maui County Coordinator / Kahului Corps Officer after each meeting
E. The SM will monitor due dates and provide specific written input with reference to annual evaluations/reviews of employees and evaluation of trainees as needed from referring agencies. The SM will submit annual reviews, in proper computer format, at least two weeks in advance of due date for CFC review. The SM will also administer disciplinary action, as needed, in accordance with TSA policies and procedures using progressive discipline guidelines.
F. The SM shall ensure that all staff and volunteers will be thoroughly orientated in safety and accident policy and procedures, as outlined in The Salvation Army Employee Handbook. Ensuring a safe working and shopping environment. The SM will monitor safe operation of TSA property and equipment, instruct safety training and instill proper safety attitudes within store, and be responsible for timely accident reporting and adherence to the TSA safety program, OSHA and IIPP compliance. The SM will also enforce all store policies including dress code, cell phone use, purchase policy, etc.
2. General Responsibilities
A. Responsible for achieving daily production goals, ensuring a trained member of the store management/leadership team has checked all merchandise against TSA quality standards prior to sending to the sales floor.
B. The SM will make every effort to manage the store operation within the Local and Divisional guidelines given for operated stores. Expenses should be monitored daily, especially employee hours. These guidelines serve as the basis for sound fiscal management in order that the store may generate income that supports total operations.
C. The SM will be responsible for the handling of the store sales income on a daily basis to include uniform procedures for: all types of cash, charge, check and voucher transactions; daily sales report documentation, bank deposits and cash/check donations. Overages and shortages exceeding $5 per day will include an explanation after being investigated.
D. The SM will ensure production is running during the prescribed hours. The SM must be cross trained in all store positions and able to cover any open shifts to ensure full coverage. When needed, the SM must assist in any given position during busy periods or periods of high volume (ex. cashiering, stocking, etc.)
E. The SM will delegate the arrangement for seasonal shopping and merchandise availability on continuing bases. Clothing racks and other stock fixtures are to be kept full of current merchandise at all times.
F. All clothing will be tagged for dating and will remain on the sales floor at full price for maximum of three weeks. Clothing will be discounted after third week and "ragged out" or recycled in a timely manner in general accordance with standard Salvation Army Thrift Store practices.
G. The SM will be required to attend all manager meetings or conferences and regularly communicate back to all personnel in order to keep team informed of new policies and directives.
H. The SM will assure that safety measures are established and maintained which are consistent with TSA safety program, IIPP compliance policy and OSHA regulations and for reporting all hazards to the Director of Retail Operations.
I.
The SM is responsible for the protection of property and building, including safety and proactive maintenance program. Any issues are to be immediately reported to the Maui County Coordinator / Kahului Corps Officer.
J. Any other tasks/responsibilities necessary for the successful operation of the Kihei Thrift Store operations, including vehicle management.
K. Other written or verbal duties, as assigned by the Maui County Coordinator / Kahului Corps Officer, TSA designate or DHQ.
3. Maintenance/Custodial
A. The SM will ensure proper safety, cleanliness, care and maintenance of the retail sales floor, production area, the building in general, vehicles, and all restrooms. All staff members should be assigned specific duties and should be monitored in weekly review format as defined in store management required reporting.
B. The SM will ensure that monthly safety inspections are conducted in accordance with Salvation Army Policy, immediately notifying the Maui County Coordinator / Kahului Corps Officer of any deficiencies and corrective action needed or taken.
C. The SM will maintain department supply inventory lists and will request replacement supplies as necessary to perform daily operations and maintain supply inventory.
4. Customer/Community Relations
A. The SM is responsible to ensure that store clerks positively acknowledge and treat all customers in a courteous manner.
B. The SM is responsible to ensure that all staff/workers are treated with the same respect and fairness while working in the store.
C. The SM will handle all customer complaints in a professional manner, and report them to the Maui County Coordinator / Kahului Corps Officer in a timely manner
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
*Two years of demonstrated experience as a Supervisor in a retail environment of three or more staff.
*Demonstrated knowledge of sales, cash controls, accounting and cashier procedures
SOFTWARE-RELATED SKILLS:
*POS, Cash register skills required
