The Equipment Specialist I performs varied duties under the direction of the Equipment Service Supervisor in the department of Perioperative Services. The duties include, but are not limited to, stocking and maintenance of supplies, inventory and patient care equipment which contributes to the delivery of timely, safe and efficient patient care. This role assists with entering and managing facilities work orders, vendor repair work orders, and procurement requests. This role assists with the timely processes associated with Operating Room turnover and clean up between and after surgical cases.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Check for Perioperative Services Equipment in need of repairs and assist with root cause analyses for maintenance issues.
  • Clean and disinfect OR equipment before and after use.
  • Maintain all areas in the OR clean and free of any tape, adhesives and residue from devices or surfaces.
  • Inspect surgical positioning devices and equipment for functionality, integrity, and safety.
  • Report and remove any defective items and submit requests for repairs.
  • Check Nitrogen and Carbon Dioxide tanks. Ensure tanks are stored in accordance with hospital policies
  • Manage the process of replacing tanks along with Materials Management.
  • Deliver tanks to OR rooms as needed.
  • Routinely check tanks stored at the receiving dock.
  • Participate in supply and capital inventory functions as requested.
  • Retrieve/return borrowed equipment as necessary.
  • Remove reusable equipment from OR rooms and return items to the Equipment Room or designated storage locations following proper cleaning and storage policies.
  • Perform or assist with small repairs on equipment as instructed and according to policies.
  • Assist with assembly of new equipment as necessary.
  • Assist the Equipment Service Supervisor with contacting vendors for quotes or repairs as necessary for OR equipment, lights and booms.
  • Review the functionality of OR beds and report any issues to the supervisor and vendor as needed.
  • Assist with stocking supplies or maintaining par levels of supplies as needed.
  • Determines modifications required to adopt substitute materials, supplies or equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Equipment Supervisor, OR Charge Nurse, Nurse managers, OR Director and/or OR Business Director.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications Required:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Three (3) years (36 months) of technical, trade, or craft experience, education, and/or training related to one or more areas of equipment specialization.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of mechanical principles, construction, operation, overhaul, maintenance, repair, and installation of equipment.
  • Knowledge of the basic physical sciences.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical publications.
  • Ability to understand and interpret standard shop terminology.
  • Ability to organize and maintain established supply inventory par levels
  • Ability to recognize malfunctioning equipment, order repairs and maintain unit equipment
  • Ability to verbalize a problem and need and to arrive at an acceptable solution
