Executive Director, Heart & Vascular Clinic Operations

The Executive Director, Heart and Vascular Service Line is accountable for the ongoing operational, financial, and strategic performance of the cardiovascular acute and ambulatory care continuum across Cone Health. This role oversees new and existing service line initiatives, ensuring effective communication, execution, and alignment, and promotes seamless transitions of care across the full cardiovascular care continuum. The Executive Director applies innovative practices and performance improvement principles to drive top-decile results across all relevant operational, clinical, and financial domains.
The Executive Director reports directly to the Vice President, Heart and Vascular Services, and works in a complex matrix structure with the Chief of Heart and Vascular Services and the Heart and Vascular Executive Committee. The Executive Director collaborates closely with Cone Health site and campus leaders, as well as cardiovascular subspecialty practices, to coordinate care delivery models that meet the specific service, patient population, and campus needs.
The Executive Director also works in close collaboration with the Executive Director of the complementary Cardiovascular Care Continuum, the Director of the Cardiovascular Nursing Continuum, and the Executive Directors of Operative Services to ensure integrated, high-quality cardiovascular care delivery across acute, procedural, and ambulatory settings. site/campus leader to coordinate care and services specific to the campus' services and needs.

Essential Job Function

  • Accountable Leader: Meets all system requirements of Executive Director Leadership Competencies.
  • This may include system-wide meetings, webinars, and other forms of communication such as email, etc Employs multiple communication modes to keep CHMG practices informed of system developments/initiatives.
  • Employee Engagement/Talent Development: Engagement and Development of CHMG and Cone Health Directors and providers.
  • Includes recruitment, mentoring, and the development of provider/administrator (Dyad) relationships that strengthen CHMG mission and values.
  • Uses established tactics such as rounding, provider meetings, and Director meetings to assure goals are achieved.
  • Financial/Resource Manager: Understands and uses tools available (financial reports, OA reports, VitalStats, etc) tenable CHMG and Cone Health create value for our patients.
  • Accountable for timely and accurate budget completion and process.
  • Communicates financial information in an informative, interesting and understandable way tall stakeholders.
  • Accountable that necessary actions are taken when financial performance varies from plan.
  • Instrumental in the development of provider compensation plans including appropriately applied incentives.
  • Accountable for the development of financial models and/or proformas for issue resolution and growth possibilities.
  • Quality and Safety Leader: Accountable for achieving CHMG, THN, Cone Health and Heart and Vascular Quality Goals.
  • Accountable for assuring operational compliance with clinical competencies, regulatory requirements, risk management initiatives and ACO and other metrics.
  • Service Leader: Sees the patient as the center and reason for all our work.
  • Accountable for achieving the highest level of customer satisfaction possible.
  • Leads and engages of all staff and providers in addressing patient customer needs, using satisfaction metrics and patient feedback.
  • Visionary, Innovative, Strategic Leader: Employs breakthrough and innovating thinking to further practice, CHMG and Cone Health goals.
  • Achieves this by constant personal development, and a willingness to think globally beyond immediate area of accountability.
  • Uses opportunities such as: MGMA, iCare, leadership training/meetings, as well as other committees as occasions for learning and growth.
  • Uses development tools and tactics to further practice and CHMG growth as necessary.
  • Balances demands of work and life is that best results are achieved; includes willingness to declare breakdowns and seek possibilities to learn and improve processes.
  • Holds Directors accountable for these activities as well.

Education

  • Required: Graduate Degree in Business, Finance or Health Care Administration; or BA/BS in Business, Finance or Health Care with 15+ years of Health Care Management experience.

Experience

  • Required: Minimum of 10 years' experience in Physician Practice Management or Ambulatory Health Care Management.
  • Cardiovascular leadership experience preferred.
  • Preferred: Prefer 15+ years practice management experience.

Licensure/Certification/Listing

  • REQUIRED Valid Driver's License | Valid Driver's License, BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider * If driving Cone Health vehicle, must have 5 years of driving experience and MVR must be approved by Risk Management.
  • PREFERRED Clinical experience/certification/licensure in cardiovascular related field.
