The Opportunity

The Facilities, Reliability & Integrity (FRI) team provides technical governance and expertise for critical disciplines in the design, construction, and operation of TC Energy assets. We comprise deep technical subject matter expertise to resolve complex enterprise-wide problems and influence external industry codes and standards.

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with deep industry experience in the mechanical engineering design, commissioning, and operations of reciprocating and turbomachinery compression equipment. You will bring asset management and reliability-centered maintenance expertise to advance our maintenance strategies and act as a technical authority on standards, advising business units on complex technical issues while representing TC Energy on industry code committees.

As a subject matter expert in turbomachinery and reciprocating equipment, you will support operations, technical services, projects, and external vendors. You will be a key member of the cross-functional team advancing the enterprise probabilistic reliability modeling framework, data collection techniques, and asset management strategies.

What You'll Do
  • Act as subject matter expert (SME) and document contact for engineering specifications and standards across pre-qualification, design, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and repair
  • Resolve variance requests and feedback on reciprocating equipment and turbomachinery standards; maintain and improve standards based on performance data, trends, and lessons learned
  • Collaborate with Technical Services teams to maintain an enterprise view of key technical risks and performance metrics
  • Provide independent peer review of project deliverables to ensure compliance, quality, and effective implementation of turbomachinery standards
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives advancing probabilistic reliability modeling, data collection, and asset management strategies
  • Quantify operational reliability/availability gaps and enable value-based maintenance capital allocation across pipeline infrastructure
  • Evaluate industry best practices and RAM-Performance modeling tools to optimize reliability, cost, risk, and performance
  • Own enterprise tools supporting performance management and long-term maintenance strategy
  • Lead a cross-business unit technical community of practice to support knowledge transfer and best practices sharing
  • Provide technical advisory support to project teams, engineering service providers, and equipment vendors on complex technical issues
  • Advise business units on vendor procurement, pre-qualification, contractual relationships, and performance management
  • Initiate and lead R&D projects to improve equipment design and engineering standards
  • Represent TC Energy on key technical code committees (API S.O.M.E., PRCI, CGA GTEN, ASME IGTI) and influence industry standards
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with Professional Engineer (P. Eng. or PE) designation
  • Calgary-based candidates must be registered or eligible for registration with APEGA
  • 20+ years of progressive relevant experience
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable industry regulations, codes, and standards for turbomachinery and ancillary systems
  • Experience developing and managing engineering standards, specifications, and procedures
  • Technical expertise in engineering design, design oversight, and quality assurance
  • Owner's Engineer experience managing turbomachinery vendors and relationships
  • Willingness to travel to project and vendor sites as required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate degree in Engineering
  • SMRP Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional
  • Deep knowledge of reciprocating equipment and turbomachinery (gas turbine design, manufacturing methods, thermal/combustion performance, rotor-dynamics, materials science)
  • R&D, testing, validation, and technology development experience with reciprocating equipment
  • Proficiency in technical design audits and condition monitoring/prognostic analytics
  • Extensive field commissioning and startup experience
  • Subject matter expertise in complex operability and failure investigations
  • Ability to balance customer needs with technical, safety, and regulatory requirements
  • Strong stakeholder relationship-building and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Clear communication of complex technical issues to all leadership levels
  • Demonstrated negotiation and conflict resolution capabilities
  • Self-motivated, organized, and results-driven with excellent time management and interpersonal skills
