Job Description

Role Summary
MU Planning, Design & Construction (PD&C) provides services to improve the physical environment in support of MU's Institutional mission and vision, managing all efforts in the design and construction of new structures, renovation and repair projects and infrastructure development. Planning and Design provides MU with facility designs that optimize quality, timeliness, and cost effectiveness. Project Management guides MU colleagues through the planning and design process and oversees the work of contracted architects and engineers. Construction directs the physical implementation of the facility designs. Design Services provides a cost-effective means of delivering a large number of small and medium-sized projects, primarily for renovation and repair.
Under the direction of the Director of Planning, Design and Construction, the Senior Project Manager provides professional engineering direction and project management for design and construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
* Lead planning, design, and construction of health care and complex institutional facilities, ensuring alignment with operational, clinical, and strategic goals.
* Manage health care projects in compliance with applicable codes and standards, including FGI Guidelines, Joint Commission requirements, and other regulatory agencies.
* Developing project scope, schedule and budget, for projects that are designed by contracted and/or internal consultants (architects, engineers and interior designers).
* Managing the architectural and engineering development of construction projects, campus facilities master plans, and facilities development studies.
* Plan, assign, and manage workload and activities of professional staff, provide assistance and instruction, assure accuracy and completeness, monitor design staff progress with respect to adherence to schedules, expended time on projects, and quality of overall product.
* Reviewing and approving final plans and specifications prepared by contracted and/or internal consultants (architects, engineers and interior designers).
* Identify, coordinate, and contract with additional consultants to support the project scope of work.
* Coordinate and communicate with campus and community partners and stakeholders.
* Maintain project cost and schedule information and continually monitor progress and status as the project design develops. Provide active direction to consultants and stakeholders to align deviations.
* Initiate and facilitate bidding processes.
* Evaluating and making recommendations in the selection, and contracting of project consultants, developing contractual documents for consulting services, and assessing completeness of contract requirements.
* Providing professional support in the preparation of Board actions for construction projects, campus master plans, and facilities development studies.
* Developing and maintaining University facility design standards.
* Participate in construction phase activities as needed to support the construction manager, or construction supervisor colleague.

As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities may be expected in order to support the mission and purpose of the University of Missouri.

Shift

8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary. Licensure or certification may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Health care Facilities Experience
  • Experience managing planning, design, and construction of health care environments (e.g., hospitals, ambulatory care centers, labs, specialty clinics).
  • Familiarity with clinical workflows and their impact on facility design, patient safety, and operational efficiency.
  • Understanding of health care-specific codes and guidelines (FGI Guidelines, Joint Commission standards, HIPAA considerations, infection control requirements).
  • Regulatory & Compliance Knowledge
  • Expertise in health care regulatory approvals, including AHJ coordination, life safety compliance, and accreditation readiness.
  • Experience with ICRA (Infection Control Risk Assessment) and interim life safety measures (ILSM) during construction in occupied health care environments.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Extensive knowledge of design and construction industry
  • Construction contract experience
  • Knowledge of industry standard software (AutoCAD, Revit, e-Builder, Bluebeam, Excel, Zoom, Teams, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and be self-motivated.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of individuals, with the ability to foresee needs, identify solutions, and be flexible with work assignments.

This position requires operating university vehicles; therefore, possession of a valid motor vehicle driver's license is required.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $120,000 - $135,000 annually

Grade: GGS-013
