DESCRIPTION

The Halicioglu School of Data Science and Computing (HSDSC) is composed of the founding units the Halicioglu Data Science Institute (HDSI) and the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC). HDSI will serve as the academic core of the school and SDSC will serve as the operational and translational science core. HSDSC will have strong academic interactions and affiliations with existing UC San Diego Schools and academic departments including; Jacobs School of Engineering, Social Sciences, Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Health Sciences and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. These relationships and interactions will support the goal of transforming data into knowledge through development of data and information science, advancing innovative computing paradigms, and developing new contextual learning algorithms and methodologies that can transform society.

The Director of Multiscale Training Programs plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing the initiatives of the Halicioglu School of Data Science and Computing and operates with a significant level of autonomy. This role focuses on the development of innovative education, training, and development programs while assisting the Dean in broadening the School's educational program portfolio including; scholar exchanges, stackable degree programs, research partnerships and distance education. Independently applies advanced and specialized technical expertise and in-depth knowledge and experience in a number of policy and programmatic areas that impact the School as a whole.

The Director will play a key role in developing and implementing the Halicioglu Data Science Institute's unique education, training and development programs and operations, and will play a strategic role in supporting the HDSI Director in growing the program portfolio.

The incumbent will direct programs with organization-wide impact and designs and develops major program components and administers the full range of the program's operational requirements. They will be a technical leader with knowledge in the overall field and recognized expertise in specific areas; problem-solving frequently requires analysis of unique issues / problems without precedent and / or structure and may manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources.

The position will establish relationships and partnerships to support both existing initiatives and new areas of academic interest. They will work with HSDSC, SDSC and HDSI Leadership and faculty to further the School's mission and strategically grow existing and new programs. The Director will conceptualize and direct the design and implementation of self-supporting, revenue producing education programs, envision, develop and implement a comprehensive outreach and marketing strategy to promote and expand HSDSC education programs as well as coordinate preparation and execution of relevant cooperative agreements with counterpart institutions and agencies. The incumbent will also facilitate and orchestrate global engagement programs working with HSDSC units and UC Global Initiatives.

The Director will also manage the operations for professional degree programs such as the online Master of Data Science, MAS DSE, as well as various certificate programs - including the staff involved in admissions, recruiting, advising, course approvals and scheduling; works with faculty program director and department chairs for faculty staffing of courses, and other student support activities. They will interface and collaborate with DSC Student Affairs, Academic Personnel, and HDSI Business Office to achieve outcomes as needed as well as work with faculty to develop curriculum for professional programs, including the facilitation of online course development between HDSI and the Digital Learning Hub within the Teaching and Learning Commons.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

  • Academic background and experience in selected area of research. Superior knowledge of the theories, principles and trends related to higher-education practices and policies. Superior knowledge of curriculum development for degree and non-degree programs related to data science and analytics.

  • Advanced knowledge of administrative, budgetary, human resources and financial principles and practices. Demonstrated ability to develop and manage complex multi-program/project budgets and to establish and maintain budgeting processes for a complex organization which include projecting costs, coordinating multiple projects, adapting programmatic objectives to changes in resources, and establishing priorities as affected by budgetary issues.

  • Advanced ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills. Advanced skills in short- and long-term strategic planning, analysis, problem-solving and customer service. Expertise in clarifying and resolving conflict situations by analyzing situations, defining problem or objective, identifying relevant factors, formulating logical conclusions, recognizing alternatives, evaluating their impact and making viable recommendations.

  • Advanced ability to work collaboratively with internal and external peers and managers. Proven experience in the development of establishing and building long-term strategic partnerships within high-tech organizations and educational partners. Demonstrated success at converting leads and implementing strategic solicitation for program participation.

  • Demonstrated ability to support development of new programs, expansion or re-visioning of existing programs, or otherwise promote growth and organizational innovation.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $108,100 - $204,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $51.77 - $98.13

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
