DESCRIPTION

Perform all duties in accordance with current laboratory safety standards, providing technical support under the supervision of the section supervisor and/or Pathologist. Responsibilities include performing technical tasks and procedures, including preventative maintenance, within the assigned laboratory section. Assist in the gross room with accessioning and processing of surgical specimens, including the preparation of frozen sections, staining, gross descriptions, and the selection and submission of specimens for histological, microbiological, immunological, electron microscopy, and other specialized testing. Additional duties include photographing specimens, transporting samples, assisting with tissue collection during fine needle aspiration procedures, and managing the storage and proper disposal of specimens. Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment, support general lab maintenance, and assist with inventory management and ordering of supplies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from college with a major in an applicable natural science

  • Two (2) years of related high-volume lab experience, preferably in a large complex healthcare organization; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Proficient knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access).

  • Demonstrated high accuracy in work performance.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Strong communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Pathology experience or clinical lab experience.

  • Experience with specimen handling, accessioning, and gross examination of solid tissue specimens.

  • Reference lab specimen send out experience.

  • Bio-hazardous material shipping experience/certification.

  • Basic knowledge of FedEx/UPS send out/tracking and ability to multi-task with exceptional record keeping skills to track packages and pending orders.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $82,434 - $102,521 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $39.48 - $49.10

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
