What to Expect
Tesla is looking to hire a designer to push the creative boundaries of lighting and cabin UX, as Tesla pursues a path to enabling autonomous transport.As an interior designer, you will be responsible for the interior design development of future Tesla vehicles.You will be part of the team that creates and executes world-class vehicle designs in terms of form and function. Working alongside the most creative and resourceful designers and engineers in the world on a lean and agile team, you will be responsible for cabin design themes, from concept definition at the industrial design phase, to prototype creation, design iterations as well as working with suppliers on developing new key technologies and methodologies to enable scaling of the design. Using your considerable production design experience and innovative thinking, you will primarily be tasked with creating designs for future cars. What You'll Do
- Engineer, develop and execute world-class interior cabin themes that meet vehicle styling intent and are compliant to regulatory requirements
- Developing new novel designs that will enable new technology adoption
- Work through the entire product cycle with critical input early in development by collaborating with Tesla's design/styling and engineering teams
- Participate in the iterative process with all stakeholders to deliver the optimal balance of form, function, performance and cost
- Direct Tesla and supplier engineering development to enable successful execution
- Maintain all required product design roadmap across all programs with a clear understanding of attribute weighting
- Work with cross functional integration of interior lighting and switches with the Tesla design/styling team, interior engineering, Low-voltage electronics and manufacturing as well as with Tesla supply chain teams and supplier engineers to achieve technical feasible designs
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Automotive or Transportation Design, or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in production automotive design, or a combination of advanced and production design
- Understanding of design and engineering differences in premium vehicles with examples of completed programs
- In-depth technical knowledge of prototyping, manufacturing, and assembly processes related to automotive design
- High proficiency in taking 2D sketches to 3D modeling in Alias and clay
- Strong ability to create and maintain cross-functional working relationships
- Exceptional visual and oral communication skills with demonstrated creativity in design and problem-solving for complex engineering challenges

Expected Compensation
$92,000 - $180,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
