Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Art Handler (Part-time) for the J Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum. This position reports to the Head of Collections and Exhibitions.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Works on installation and deinstallation of exhibitions, including patching and painting of galleries, art handling, placement, hanging and securing of artworks, as well as carpentry projects.
  • Assists with the packing and crating of artworks for delivery.
  • Drives the Zimmerli van to pick up and drop off locations.
  • Moves, packs and installs artworks assuring professional standards for art handling.
  • Participates in weekly trips to museum's off-site storage facility.
  • Supports the Manager of Operations with set- up for events and programs when not working on exhibitions.
  • Maintains tools, hardware, and exhibition preparation supplies in an organized and safe manner.
  • Helps maintain cleanliness and organization of shop.

FLSA Nonexempt
Salary Details $27 - $30/hourly

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.


Certifications/Licenses
  • A valid driver's license would be required for this position.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to assess needs and requirements for the installation and movement of artworks.
  • Demonstrated skills with power tools for carpentry.
  • Ability to operate a scissor lift.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of experience in art-handling including paintings, sculpture, works on paper, textiles and related media.
Equipment Utilized
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work on ladders, and be on feet all day.
Special Conditions
  • Safe Driving Record.
