Department Summary

The MIMG department mission is to provide the highest quality research and education possible in the interdisciplinary fields of Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics. To meet this goal, we work together as scientists, educators and students to identify and address the most relevant problems in microbial pathogenesis and physiology, host cell biology and immune defense, and the host-pathogen interface.
Position Summary

The Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics (MIMG) is ranked among the top 10 microbiology departments in the country. We are proud of our internationally recognized faculty-whose research funding, in total, is among the highest in the nation; and whose research spans the disciplines of structural biology, cell biology, bacterial physiology, bacterial development and gene regulation, bacterial pathogenesis, virology and viral pathogenesis, molecular and cellular parasitology, immunology, molecular genetics, stem cell biology, cancer biology, and computational biology. We leverage this scientific diversity-along with our partnerships with other institutes, centers and departments at UCLA-to further cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research and enrich teaching.


Salary & Compensation

Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications

  • Lab Experience Relevant Lab Experience (Required)
  • 1. Demonstrated skill in molecular biology and cell biology procedures. (Required)
  • 2. Demonstrated skill in maintaining growth suspension and monolayer cell cultures. (Required)
  • 3. Demonstrated skill in preparation of various stock solution and sterilization by disposable filter units. (Required)
  • 4. Demonstrated skill in sterile techniques used in tissue culture. (Required)
  • 5. Demonstrated skill in proper use and maintenance of lab equipment, e. g. centrifuge and electrophoresis. (Required)
  • 6. Knowledge of lab safety procedure associated with the handling and disposal of chemicals and chemical waste, as well as biohazards and biohazard waste. (Required)
  • 7. Skill in analyzing data with stand data analysis tools. Skill in following written laboratory protocols. (Required)
  • 8. Ability to organize ordering information and lab protocols, Communication skill (writing and oral) to maintain a detail record of research actives in lab in lab notebook, using clear and concise lab notes and data records. (Required)
  • 9. Skill in following through on assignments and working independently. Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner with deadlines, fluctuation workloads or last-minute changes. (Required)
  • 10. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working conditions and relationships with other staff members and students. (Required)
  • 11. Ability to move and lift up to 25 Ibs. (Required)

  • Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Biochemistry or related fields and/or equivalent experience / training (Preferred)
