THE POSITION

Join the Department of Transportation as a Civil Engineer (Transportation) and play an important role in managing modern traffic systems. This position lets you work with ITS equipment, support operations, and contribute to emergency response efforts. You will work closely with skilled professionals who value accuracy and teamwork. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) by helping maintain devices, assist with traffic operations, and contribute to engineering-related reviews. As a Traffic Control Specialist, you will perform the following duties:

  • ITS Operations: Assist with operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting ITS devices and communication systems
  • Project Support: Help review ITS plans, attend technical training, and support equipment design activities
  • Traffic Center Work: Support day-to-day operations of the Traffic Management Center and assist in training new staff
  • Emergency Response: Participate in incident management activities, drills, and emergency communication efforts
  • Permit Review: Review special event permits and coordinate needed changes with applicants
  • Engineering Tasks: Conduct field views, support traffic studies, and assist with traffic signal evaluations

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Oil City. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the Civil Engineer Trainee training program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
  • Four years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an engineer-in-training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, and an associate's degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or
  • One year of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.

Special Requirement:

  • This position requires possession of a valid driver's license.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
