Overview The Technical Supervisor of Steam Operations 74th St Station is responsible for leading the implementation and enforcement of the Companys safety, health, and environmental programs within the Instrumentation and Controls Department. This role plays a key part in the station work control process, supporting all operating equipment across Con Edison Steam Generating Stations. The position ensures the efficient utilization of personnel and materials in the calibration, maintenance, testing, repair, analysis, and overhaul of critical power plant equipment, including boilers, turbines, generators, protective relays, and auxiliary systems. This position does not provide employment pursuant to the terms of a STEM OPT Training Plan. Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Accountable for the safety, productivity and quality of the work performed by the Electrical technician or for all types of maintenance and testing of the section she/he oversees.
- Supervise union personnel and enforce all contractual and local work rules. Assign jobs in accordance with the Station weekly work schedule and performing administrative tasks in work management system (MAXU+IMO) daily.
- Plan, schedule, coordinate, and evaluate compliance testing for equipment, recommend and review procedures for system reliability, and commission new equipment through review of tests.
- Direct troubleshooting, repair efforts, and restoration of equipment or control circuits.
- Attend daily management meetings to report job progress, be fully knowledgeable of work scopes and submit requests to perform work in a clear and concise manner.
- Provide exemplary customer service in all areas of responsibility.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and program procedures applicable to Steam Operations Generating Stations.
- Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills to track and manage a variety of tasks in a fast-paced setting.
- Accountable for conducting On the Job training (OJT), effective job briefings and documented job site safety exchanges.
- Adhere to Company rules and terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Establish appropriate disciplinary action, conduct interviews, participate in settlement of grievances, and evaluate subordinates work performance.
- Ensure the compliance of the Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) by coordinating, conducting and completing Corrective Maintenance (CMs), Preventative Maintenance (PMs) and audits to ensure the annual recertification of all analyzers within CEMS to be complaint with the EPA.
- Maintain and update security and software for Transient Cyber Assets (TCAs).
- Review the I&C compliance system and work with staff to schedule PMs to be performed on a monthly basis. This will include instrumentation, relay calibrations and trip checks.
- Create outage schedules with the Operations and Maintenance departments, complete all scheduled work.
- Properly handles multiple assignments efficiently.
- Prepares OJTs and Lessons Learned in response to Station Events.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree and 3 years work experience relevant to power plants, US Navy, or merchant shipping environment, or
- Associate's Degree and 4 years work experience relevant to power plants, US Navy, or merchant shipping environment, or
- High School Diploma/GED and 5 years work experience relevant to power plants, US Navy, or merchant shipping environment.
Relevant Work Experience
- Ability to direct troubleshooting, repair efforts and restoration of equipment or control circuits, required.
- Ability to comprehend and interpret engineering drawings (including schematics, one-line diagrams, P&IDs and function logic diagrams) and be able to provide marked prints of field conditions, required.
- Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures, operating orders, work permits and use of appropriate personal protective equipment, required.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills along with the ability to work as part of a team, required.
- Demonstrate leadership and accountability in advancing a Zero Accident Culture, inclusion, operational excellence, and cost management while enhancing the customer experience, required.
- Ensure adherence to the Companys Standards of Business Conduct and full compliance with all Company procedures, including Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S), required.
- Knowledge of Combustion Gas Turbine operation, required.
- Experience in Pneumatics, Relay Protection and Control Systems, preferred.
- Prior supervisory experience, preferred.

- Ability to work on elevated platforms, scaffolds, catwalks, roofs, and/or other equipment
- Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
- Ability to work with, and in, the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
- Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
- Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
- Use hand-eye coordination to adjust controls on equipment
- Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
Additional Physical Demands
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to work in a power plant environment with extreme heat conditions, noise, high elevations, and confined spaces.
- Ability to work under conditions of high temperatures and at high elevations in the plant.
