Project Coordinator - Safety Projects / Daylighting

The Transportation Planning and Management Division (TPM) is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City's streets, supporting the larger goals of economic and social vitality for people living, working, and doing business in New York City. The Division's responsibilities include planning, street design, technical analysis, signs, transit development, freight mobility and markings, ensuring the safety of motor vehicle occupants, pedestrians, and cyclists. The Office of Research, Implementation, and Safety (RIS) is a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to making the streets of New York City safer for all users as part of Vision Zero, a citywide policy striving to eliminate serious injuries and fatalities from traffic crashes. RIS uses a data-driven approach to design and implement street safety redesign projects, administer safety programs, promote senior and youth safety, manage crash data and data applications, conduct large-scale safety research projects, and lead agency action plans related to safety and Vision Zero programs/policy.

RIS's Safety Projects and Programs team is seeking candidates for its Project Coordinator: Safety Projects/Daylighting position. The candidate will be responsible for planning, developing, designing, and implementing Street Improvement Projects to improve safety for pedestrians, motor vehicles, bicyclists, and motorcyclists. The position will focus on incorporating proven safety treatments, including (but not limited to) "hardened daylighting" at intersections, to improve visibility for all users. Key tasks for this position include performing research and crash analysis to identify high crash locations, scoping and designing safety improvement projects for high crash locations, analyzing traffic data, preparing reports/graphics and maps, conducting field work including on-site evaluations and field meetings, coordinating project implementation, and providing technical assistance to senior staff. The selected candidates will also be required to participate in community outreach, including developing outreach plans and materials, meetings with public officials, Community Boards, inter- and intra-agency stakeholders. The ideal candidates should be detail-oriented, accurate, capable team players, and possess excellent communication skills. Preferred Skills
The preferred candidate will be proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, AutoCAD, and Adobe Creative Suite. Knowledge of traffic calming, urban design, pedestrian-oriented design, complete streets, and traffic engineering required.

Excellent writing, editing, oral presentation, and community outreach skills are a must.

Possession of a driver's license valid in the state of New York is a plus. This license must be maintained throughout the duration of employment in this position.

Additional Information
Note: Less than 2 yrs. City Service - New Hire Rate: $62,868, 2 or more yrs. Or City Service - Minimum Incumbent Rate: $72,298.

*This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program agreed to between the City and DC37. *

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
