Overview: TEKsystems is seeking an experienced Application Security Engineer to support the development and maturation of an enterprise Application Security program. This role requires a blend of strategic vision and hands-on technical expertise, with a strong focus on securing enterprise applications across both on-prem and cloud environments. This individual will play a critical role in shaping application security strategy, implementing security tools, and ensuring secure-by-design practices across the organization. Key Responsibilities: * Lead the development and advancement of the organization's Application Security program * Define and implement application security standards, policies, and best practices to support secure development * Assess the current state of application security and develop a roadmap to mature the program * Work with both on-prem and SaaS-based enterprise applications to identify and mitigate security risks * Architect and implement security solutions and tools, supporting full lifecycle deployment until transition to operational teams * Partner with engineering, infrastructure, and security teams to ensure secure integration between applications and systems * Establish guardrails and controls to ensure new and existing applications are secure as they scale * Conduct application security reviews, risk assessments, and compliance evaluations * Develop and present security recommendations, strategies, and reports to leadership and executive stakeholders * Translate complex technical risks into clear business impact for non-technical audiences * Support audit readiness and maintain alignment with regulatory and cybersecurity frameworks Required Qualifications: * 10+ years of experience in IT or cybersecurity, including architect or lead-level responsibility * Strong experience developing or managing Application Security programs in enterprise environments * Deep understanding of modern application security threats, vulnerabilities, and mitigation techniques * Architect-level knowledge of enterprise application ecosystems and integrations * Experience securing both internally hosted applications and SaaS platforms (Salesforce, ServiceNow, Archer, etc.) * Strong understanding of cybersecurity frameworks and regulatory requirements (NIST, PCI-DSS, FFIEC, HIPAA, etc.) * Ability to operate independently and drive strategy in a highly visible role Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills: * Experience implementing application security tools (SAST, DAST, SCA) * Experience working in regulated environments (financial services, healthcare, etc.) * Strong understanding of API security, identity/access integration, and application architecture * Experience presenting to and influencing executive leadership Key Traits for Success: * Strong strategic thinker with hands-on execution ability * Excellent communication skills, including the ability to influence executive stakeholders * Highly organized with strong prioritization and time-management skills * Ability to work independently while collaborating across teams * Comfortable handling sensitive and confidential information Work Environment: * Fully remote role; candidates must be able to work Hawaii Standard Time (HST) business hours What This Role Offers: * Opportunity to lead and shape an enterprise Application Security program * High-visibility role with direct impact on organizational security strategy * Exposure to a wide range of enterprise applications (on-prem and cloud) * Ability to drive long-term security maturity and transformation * Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Honolulu, HI.
