The Infectious Disease Sciences (IDS) Program within the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Division actively conducts and engages in research related to infections in the immunocompromised host, bacterial vaginosis (BV), microbiota, HIV/HSV interactions and HIV research.

The Statistical Research Associate within the Infectious Disease Sciences (IDS) Program will be expected to independently perform a variety of tasks related to the ongoing needs of translational studies, clinical trials, and epidemiologic investigations. The individual participates in the design of data collection, management, and analysis systems; provide statistical and scientific consulting for research projects; prepare written summaries and tables of results, and draft scientific reports, papers and grant applications. He/She will work in teams consisting of principal investigators, scientific staff, academic trainees, project managers and data coordinators.



Responsibilities

    Critically evaluate proposed research designs, study aims and suggest design improvements.
  • Assist in the preparation and writing of grant applications and collaborative manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals.
  • Analyze data on a regular or ad-hoc basis and provide an appropriate interpretation of the results.
  • Provide sample size calculations or estimation of statistical power for research study designs.
  • Actively participate in the development and conduct of research studies.
  • Access and integrate data from multiple databases, including matching data records.
  • Prioritize and manage workload on multiple project requests within deadlines.
  • Assist in the development of quality control procedures for data analysis.
  • Actively participate in research group meetings that may require travel to offsite locations.
  • Document and archive statistical documents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in Biostatistics or Statistics.
  • Minimum of three years of related experience.
  • Background in statistical computing.
  • Proficiency with the statistical packages used within the department/ project.
  • Experience in the development of statistical programs and software.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with laboratory assay data or clinical trial data is preferred.
  • Experience in data analysis, especially in patient-oriented research.
  • Strong Windows-based computer skills and experience working with databases, including MS Access and SQL; proficiency with Stata, SAS or R programming is required.
  • High level of competency in Microsoft Excel and Access, including writing and executing queries, and creating complex databases.
  • Experience handling multiple projects under the direction of different project leaders.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and disease processes, and familiarity with Infectious Diseases and/or oncology clinical information and research.
  • Strong oral and written communication and critical thinking skills are needed. Must be flexible, work well within a team environment, and be capable of meeting tight timelines. Must be organized and detail oriented.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $97,822 to $146,682, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.
