The Village of Skokie, IL is seeking qualified candidates for the position of full time Permit Technician. As a valued member of the Community Development team, and under the general direction of the Zoning Administrator & Permit Services Supervisor, you will perform various administrative tasks and complete technical reviews of permit applications and documents. This position works closely with residents, contractors, and the inspection team to ensure permit reviews and inspections are completed in a timely manner; Checks and reviews a variety of data submitted for permits for completion and conformance with established regulations and procedures; Schedules Building Inspections as they relate to construction activity and associated permits; Responds to routine and complex building permit questions and requests based on scope of knowledge; Conducts simple plan review and provides timely response(s) to the applicants; Process Appearance Commission applications; Manages incoming permit related emails to main permit desk inbox, responds to or forwards to other staff as needed; Shares responsibility to check Building & Inspection Services voicemails daily and responds within 24 hours or forwards to the appropriate position’s direct line for response; May conduct simple building inspections in the field such as fences, sheds, etc.; May accompany Building Inspectors on field inspections to facilitate continued learning and understanding of construction best practices; Performs other work-related duties, as assigned. High school education or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred; Ability to obtain ICC Permit Technician Certification within 6 months of employment, and keep current; Familiarity with permitting software; Able to effectively use MS Office Suite applications; Competency in Adobe Writer a plus; Must possess excellent organizational skills, have the ability to multi-task and prioritize, and be able to work independently and without specific instruction; Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and interact effectively with colleagues and the public; Perform all job duties in compliance with the established rules and regulations of the Department; Attend seminars, training programs, conferences, and other related events to maintain individual knowledge and skills in order to carry out all duties of the position and grow your value to the organization; Must follow all safety rules and regulations of the Village. The hourly pay range for this position is $31.00 – $40.56. The starting hourly pay range is $31.00 - $34.18 (DOQ).
