Job Summary

The Service-Learning and Civic Engagement Specialist supports the development and implementation of programs, events, and initiatives that promote student engagement, community awareness, and leadership development, fostering meaningful educational experiences both on campus and within the broader community.

While this role supports both Service-Learning and Civic Engagement efforts, it places a primary emphasis on advancing Civic Engagement initiatives across our two campuses (Pecos and Williams).

Essential Functions

Student Engagement Programming (30%)
-Assist in program logistics, workshops, presentations, and events that promote service learning, civic engagement, voter
education, and community involvement.
-Support initiatives that foster civic literacy, dialogue, and social responsibility
-Guide students toward meaningful volunteer and leadership opportunities.
Support Student Leadership Roles (25%)
-Serve as staff advisor to various student clubs and organizations like the Associated Student Government of Chandler-
Gilbert Community College and/or Rotary Club (as an example). Includes meeting attendance, logistical support, general
guidance, etc.
-Provide support to CGCC's Student Senator as they engage and impact our campus though events or initiatives.
Community & Campus Collaboration (20%)
-Maintain current partnerships with faculty, staff, student organizations, and community partners to help expand service
learning and civic engagement opportunities.
-Assist faculty and staff in integrating service learning and civic engagement into student experiences by way of basic event
coordination.
Administrative Support (15%)
-Provide customer service and information on programs and resources within Service Learning and Civic Engagement, and
Student Life as a whole.
-Data collection, evaluation and assessment of program impact, including various reporting.
Other duties as assigned (10%)

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED and three years of program support experience.
There is no substitution or equivalency allowable for the High School Diploma or GED.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Desired Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's or higher earned degree
  2. Experience in higher education, student affairs, nonprofit organizations, or community-based programming.
  3. Familiarity with civic engagement, voter engagement, leadership development, or service-learning practices.
  4. Experience with outreach, promotion, and student engagement strategies.
  5. Effective written communication skills as demonstrated in a cover letter.

  6. One year of relevant full-time MCCCD experience during the previous two years.

    **** Experience within other community college systems or higher education institutions is valued and may be considered in addition to MCCCD experience. External candidates are encouraged to apply.



Special Working Conditions
  • Driver License Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D driver's license is required
  • Lifting i.e. May be required to lift or carry up to 25lbs.
  • Temperature Work outdoors in a variety of temperatures and environmental conditions
  • Noise: will be required to work in an area of light to heavy noise levels daily
  • On rare occasion, may be required to work evenings and weekends
