Key Details:



  • Compensation : $21-26 per hour, DOE with potential for overtime
  • Housing: Housing such as hotels or Airbnb will be provided.A vehicle will be provided or mileage reimbursed.
  • Start Date: immediately/as soon as possible
  • End Date : TBD, but likely late summer. Possibility of extension for the right candidates.
  • Location: near Pueblo, Colorado



Job Summary:


Primary duties involve:



  • Conduct daily nest monitoring of active raptor nests during construction.
  • Recording accurate behavior and flight path data.
  • Fieldwork will require long days in high temperatures and variable wind speeds.
  • Job duties require use of compass, global positioning system devices, binoculars, range finders, and digital cameras as well as the ability to maintain equipment.
  • Training will be provided for all survey efforts and job-related activities.
  • Technicians will be expected to use good judgment to work safely and efficiently.

  • Technicians must be equipped with and provide own suitable safety toed footwear, clothing suitable for outdoor work in all elements, and ideally be able to provide their own binoculars (at least 8x42).

Job Requirements

Requirements:



  • Experience with raptor nest monitoring, common nesting behaviors, and conducting burrowing owl surveys preferred
  • Ideally have previous experience with raptor observation and be able to identify raptor species in Colorado by sight
  • Nest searching experience preferred but not required
  • Must be able to work independently and interact professionally and respectfully with projectmanagers, biologists, technicians, clients, and construction contractors.
  • An average workweek will include approximately 40-60 hours, though may require shorter or longer hours some weeks, depending on the weather, project, and construction schedule. Travel to multiple sites will be required, as well as weekend work. This is often not a Mon-Fri position.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Natural Resources, Wildlife Management, Wildlife Biology, or an equivalent degree preferred; students working towards degree may apply
  • Precise and thorough data collection is essential
  • Must be able to use compass, global positioning system devices, binoculars, range finders, tablets, and digital cameras; as well as maintain equipment
  • Employee must be able to appear for work on time (surveys often begin as early as sunrise and can last all day)
  • Maintain focus for long periods of time is essential
  • Follow all WEST safety protocols



Physical Requirements:



  • Applicants must be in good physical condition, as surveys will be conducted in locations where temperatures and conditions can be extreme.



After an offer of employment is made, thecandidatemust successfully pass a pre-employmentbackground check,drug screening,and a DMV records check that meets WEST's minimum criteria to operate a motor vehicle on behalf of the company. A valid driver's license will be required. Candidates must adhere to all health and safety requirements.
