Description

Myriad Genetics is seeking 3 qualified individuals to fill the role of MSL within the Family Health (FH) Medical Affairs channel in three separate geographic areas. The commercial MSL position is a field-based scientific and clinical expert role. The commercial MSL is a critical partner to the Myriad Prenatal and Hereditary Cancer Screening Sales teams and supports and initiates strategic clinical education to clients.

The ideal candidate will possess a unique blend of clinical expertise, strong business acumen, and market awareness. MSLs play a pivotal role in communicating Myriad's scientific advancements to healthcare professionals and key opinion leaders (KOLs) in alignment with the department-wide KOL strategy. MSLs collaborate with other functional groups, including Marketing, Product, Payer Markets, Training, and others.

The successful candidate will join Myriad's Medical Affairs team and will report to an FH MSL Manager who reports to the FH Medical Affairs Director. This position will require regular travel (up to 40%) with a quarterly average of 2 days of travel per week within the aligned territory. Though most of the travel is within the assigned geography, there will be occasional travel required for cross-coverage and educational or corporate meetings outside of the aligned territory.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities (60%-70%) are customer-centric and aligned closely to Myriad Genetics business strategies and initiatives. In close collaboration with Sales colleagues, the MSL will:

  • Serve as the clinical expert to healthcare providers by providing effective remote and on-site clinical education and support, including presenting information on the genetic testing portfolio, medical society guidelines, and genetic testing/screening technologies. The MSL will support the integration of genetic testing into clinical practice.

  • Be a partner to Sales in developing strategic plans for key accounts in support of business needs while maintaining clinical expertise and excellence for customers and their patients.

  • Initiate, develop, and sustain independent relationships with local KOLs who influence the incorporation of genetic screening/testing into clinical practice.

  • Provide ongoing clinical support, education, and training to the Sales team.

  • Document clinical interventions and Insights in a timely manner.

Additional responsibilities (30%-40%) include cross-functional collaborative work within and outside the Medical Affairs department. Examples of these include:

  • Project-based work and/or consistent collaboration contributing clinical expertise and skills to internal partners.

  • KOL and Insights activity focused on identifying and engaging with KOLs with local influence with oversight by MSL leadership.

A successful MSL will:

  • Demonstrate clinical knowledge of Myriad's Prenatal and Hereditary Cancer portfolio of products.

  • Remain flexible in a rapidly changing environment, identify areas of need and propose solutions, communicate and collaborate successfully with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders, and work with an efficiency mindset.

  • Educate to empower healthcare providers on the adoption of hereditary cancer risk assessment and reproductive genetic screening, consistent with current standard of care and guidelines.

  • Maintain clinical expertise through continuing education via conferences, journal clubs, literature review, team discussions, and other learning opportunities.

  • Deliver relevant scientific education and support to internal and external partners.

  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with healthcare providers and KOLs in a variety of roles within key accounts in alignment with corporate objectives.

  • Effectively strategize and prioritize, managing time and needs in a specific geography, based on current corporate and product channel objectives.

  • Serve as an active member of the Medical Affairs team, sharing best practices to support and elevate other team members.

  • Stay current on research and publications in FH-related topics and attend educational conferences.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in genetic counseling, or another related field, required: (i.e., MS, APP, PA, NP).

  • Clinical genetic experience preferred.

  • Current and active relevant board certifications and licenses required.

  • Post-graduate clinical experience preferred.

  • Understanding of genetics, genetic testing, and current service delivery models preferred.

  • Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Willing and able to travel 2-3 days per week and occasional weekends for conferences and meetings.

  • Able to effectively manage travel and expenses within budget.

Work Activities

  • Continuous sitting for prolonged periods (> 2 consecutive hours in an 8-hour day)

  • Keyboard use (greater or equal to 50% of the workday)

  • Driving a personal vehicle / rental car and flying across the U.S.

  • Travel: Yes, up to 40% on average. Most travel is within a defined geographic region, but additional travel may be required for coverage assistance or meetings.

Physical Requirements

Lifting Requirements -light work or exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Physical Requirements -stationary positioning, moving, operating, ascending/descending, communicating, observing, pushing, or pulling, and reaching. Use of equipment and tools necessary to perform essential job functions.
