Duties and Responsibilities
Position Summary
The laboratory of Dr. Rama Shankar at Loyola University Chicago is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join a newly established research program focused on systems immunology and multi-omics approaches to study sepsis, multiple organ dysfunction syndrome ( MODS), and critical illness. The successful candidate will lead innovative projects integrating single-cell and bulk transcriptomics, epigenomics, and clinical data to identify immune mechanisms and biomarkers associated with disease progression and outcomes.
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead independent and collaborative research projects
  • Analyze and integrate multi-omics datasets
  • Develop computational pipelines using R/Python
  • Collaborate with clinical teams
  • Prepare manuscripts and contribute to grant applications
  • Mentor students and research staff
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
  • M.D. or PhD Required
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with bench work
  • Experience with single-cell and multi-omics integration
  • Familiarity with RNA-seq, EdgeR, Seurat, Harmony, Monocle3, or scVelo
  • Knowledge of immunology
  • Experience with clinical datasets and HPC
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and organizational skills

Certificates/Credentials/Licenses

  • M.D. or PhD required
  • The doctoral students should hold a degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Immunology, or a related field

Computer Skills

  • General office suite and willingness to learn lab specific programs
  • Strong programming skills in R and/or Python
  • Experience with Next Generation sequencing
  • Record of peer-reviewed publications
