What to Expect
The Quality Engineering Technician will work closely with Quality Engineering in identifying quality issues, performing EOL vehicle tests, leading investigations, root cause analysis, collecting relevant process and product data to review next steps and project closure with the cross functional teams. They will support providing reports, charts, graphs and anything else needed to define, measure, analyze, improve and control product and process quality from different shops. The successful candidate must have mechanical aptitude, the ability to meet tight deadlines, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be detail oriented and be able to both take direction and work independently.
What You'll Do
- Drive root cause investigations for issues found on Drive Unit and/or overall Vehicle NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness), along with corrective-actions implementation, and follow up with cross functional teams until closure
- Perform various drive tests including but not limited to BSR, NVH evaluation, high speed drives, reliability test drives and support vehicle data collection for issue discovery and resolution
- Monitor part and process quality, determine root cause of problems, and implement and sustain corrective and preventative actions and countermeasures
- Work closely with quality engineering, manufacturing, and process Engineering to establish and sustain robust processes and procedures, which ensure consistent high quality
- Audit outgoing or incoming products, support in new product launches, continuous improvement and troubleshooting within Tesla factories, service centers, and/or its suppliers
- Lead and co-ordinate containment, sorting, or vehicle repair activities
- Maintain and update Quality documentation as needed, write high-quality work instructions, measure and coordinate measurement of data, anticipate potential problems and take preventative action
What You'll Bring
- 1 or more years of experience in a Manufacturing, Quality, or Process focused role
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, trouble-shooting skills, and ability to attentively monitor an area for safety of operations
- Mechanical inspection experience using basic and precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, multimeters, etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret basic mechanical and electrical drawings
- Understanding of, or experience, in fundamentals of GD&T, lean manufacturing principles, work instruction development, and quality problem solving methodologies highly desired
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, ability to lift and sort parts of up to 30 pounds as needed
- Ability to operate Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Essential Physical Demands
- Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day
- Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day, including over varied and uneven terrain
- Frequently and repetitively, lift, push and carry up to 35 lbs., including the ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairs
- Frequently and repetitively, bend, lift and reach to install parts
- Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours a day
- Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures
- Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, and hearing
- Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses, safety shoes, reflective vest, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines
