Qualifications

Education and Experience: Current registration as an active status Registered Dietitian (RD) with the Commission of Dietetic Registration and experience equivalent to one year of professional nutrition work is preferred.

Necessary Special Qualifications: Possession of proof of registration in an active status as a Registered Dietitian (RD) with the Commission of Dietetic Registration is required at time of appointment and must be maintained during employment in the Nutritionist 2 job classification. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.

Overview

Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) is seeking a Nutritionist 2 to serve as the Mid-Cumberland Regional Breastfeeding Coordinator based in Nashville, TN. The Regional Breastfeeding Coordinator will collaborate closely with the WIC (Women, Infants, Children) regional team to support 16 WIC clinics operated by 12 local county health departments across the Middle Tennessee area. The complete WIC regional team includes a WIC Director, Nutrition Director, Vendor Coordinator, and Breastfeeding Coordinator. The Mid Cumberland WIC program serves an average of ~20,000 participants monthly, providing essential nutrition and breastfeeding education to eligible women, infants, and children. WIC families receive monthly nutritional and supplemental food packages. Recently, the Mid Cumberland Region reported 1,791reastfeeding women receiving benefits. The Breastfeeding Coordinator is responsible for supporting WIC staff and clinics to maintain and improve breastfeeding rates across the region. This role also supervises the region's Breastfeeding Peer Counselors.

Responsibilities

  1. Work closely with the Women, Infants, Children (WIC) regional team to support local health departments in breastfeeding services.
  2. Work with local clinics to increase breastfeeding outreach and regional breastfeeding rates.
  3. Oversee WIC breastfeeding policies.
  4. Implementation of breastfeeding training for current staff and new staff.
  5. Auditing clinics for quality control related to State and Federal policies.
  6. Registered Dietitian with a minimum of 1 year of experience in breastfeeding counseling.
  7. Advanced lactation preferred: Current certification as Certified Lactation Consultant (CLC), Certified Lactation Specialist (CLS), or Internationally Board-Certified Lactation Counselor (IBCLC).
