Day Co., Inc., a leading paving and excavation company operating in Maryland and Virginia, is seeking a reliable and hardworking Laborer / Parts Runner to support our diesel mechanic shop operations. This position plays a critical role in maintaining shop efficiency by assisting mechanics, handling parts logistics, and supporting general shop upkeep. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment around heavy equipment and vehicles. Requirements: * Must have strong verbal communication skills, and the ability to read and write. * Must be able to work independently and in a team setting. * Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license (clean driving record preferred). * Ability to complete and comply with safety and other company-provided training. * Basic knowledge of automotive or diesel parts is preferred but not required. * Prior shop, warehouse, or general labor experience is a plus. Job Duties: * Pick up and deliver parts, tools, and materials between vendors, job sites, and the shop. * Assist mechanics with basic shop tasks and equipment support. * Receive, organize, and inventory incoming parts and supplies. * Maintain cleanliness and organization of the shop, yard, and work areas. * Load and unload parts, tools, and equipment as needed. * Assist with fueling, washing, and basic servicing of trucks and equipment. * Track and verify parts orders, receipts, and deliveries. * Operate company vehicles in a safe and responsible manner. * Follow directions from supervisors, shop foreman, and mechanics. * Ensure all work is performed in compliance with company and OSHA safety standards. Physical Demands: * Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift. * Must be able to lift and carry up to 50-75 lbs. frequently. * Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. * Capable of performing physically demanding tasks daily. Work Environment: * Combination of indoor shop and outdoor yard environment. * Exposure to heavy equipment, moving machinery, noise, and shop conditions. * Must be available for flexible hours, including occasional early mornings, evenings, or weekends as needed.
