DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position takes part in a structured training program that teaches the full range of maintenance and repair skills for gasoline and diesel powered vehicles and equipment. The work supports the safe and efficient operation of transportation equipment used throughout the Commonwealth. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee, you will perform the following duties:
- Equipment Repair: Assist with diagnosing mechanical issues and completing repairs on cars, trucks, and heavy equipment
- Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine servicing tasks to keep vehicles and machinery in proper working condition
- Diagnostic Work: Use approved tools and procedures to identify problems and determine appropriate repair steps
- Safety Practices: Follow required safety rules, maintain a clean work area, and take steps to prevent accidents
- Field Adjustments: Help complete adjustments and minor repairs in the field to ensure safe equipment operation
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate notes and reports on repairs, inspections, and equipment conditions
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- This position may require travel, overtime, and dual shifts. Dual shifts in effect November through March.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,844 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years as a Tradesman Helper (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) working in the automotive field; or
- Graduation from a post-high school diesel technology curriculum of an accredited trade or technical school; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit or License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed, or equivalent on the first day of employment.
- This position requires employees to possess an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment.
- All positions will require employees to obtain a valid Pennsylvania Class 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification during the probationary period.
- This position is required to obtain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) within the six-month probationary period.
- Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
- This position requires operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission within the six-month probationary period.
- This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
