Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee

The Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee position with the Department of Transportation offers a hands-on path to a skilled trade. This role provides structured training to help you learn how to maintain and repair our essential fleet of vehicles and equipment. This position takes part in a structured training program that teaches the full range of maintenance and repair skills for gasoline and diesel powered vehicles and equipment. The work supports the safe and efficient operation of transportation equipment used throughout the Commonwealth. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee, you will perform the following duties:

• Equipment Repair: Assist with diagnosing mechanical issues and completing repairs on cars, trucks, and heavy equipment
• Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine servicing tasks to keep vehicles and machinery in proper working condition
• Diagnostic Work: Use approved tools and procedures to identify problems and determine appropriate repair steps
• Safety Practices: Follow required safety rules, maintain a clean work area, and take steps to prevent accidents
• Field Adjustments: Help complete adjustments and minor repairs in the field to ensure safe equipment operation
• Record Keeping: Maintain accurate notes and reports on repairs, inspections, and equipment conditions

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• This position may require travel, overtime, and dual shifts. Dual shifts in effect November through March.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,844 (before taxes).
