This is a full time permanent role.
Must be able to get to Rancho Cucamonga, California seeking a high-caliber Technical Business Development Manager to spearhead our expansion into 3rd party markets. This is not a standard sales role; it is a strategic position for a "technical diplomat" who can identify high-value opportunities, translate complex customer requirements for our engineering teams, and manage the entire contract lifecycle from initial lead to final execution. You will be the primary engine for growth, bridging the gap between customer vision and our manufacturing reality.
Core Responsibilities
1. Growth & Market Intelligence
- Identify & Capture: Proactively hunt for and qualify 3rd party leads, transforming market activity intelligence into actionable sales opportunities.
- Campaign Strategy: Develop and execute targeted engagement plans, prioritizing accounts that align with our core manufacturing strengths.
- Intelligence Gathering: Collect and analyze units and market intelligence to stay ahead of industry trends and competitor moves.
2. Technical Liaison & Proposal Leadership
- Bridge the Gap: Act as the technical translator between our customers' engineering teams and our internal production departments to ensure total requirement alignment.
- Tender Excellence: Lead the development of Tender/Proposal strategies, ensuring all technical clarifications and HQ reviews are conducted with precision.
- Quote Management: Prepare and negotiate sales quotes, determining the disposition of tenders to maximize win rates and profitability.
3. Contract & Lifecycle Management
- Strategic Negotiation: Lead contract negotiations, renewals, and amendments, ensuring all terms protect the interests of both the client and Smith Engineering.
- Opportunity Assessment: Conduct rigorous assessments of leads to determine cross-sell and sell-up potential within existing and new accounts.
- Risk Oversight: Manage contract suspensions, early terminations, and event investigations with a high degree of professional rigor.
Qualifications
- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen (Requirement for ITAR/Defense-related projects).
- Experience: [X]+ years in technical sales, business development, or applications engineering within a manufacturing environment.
- Technical Literacy: Ability to read blueprints, understand machining/manufacturing tolerances, and discuss engineering specs fluently.
- Strategic Mindset: Proven track record of developing "Capture Plans" and managing complex proposal cycles.
- Communication: Exceptional ability to build relationships with external procurement officers and internal shop-floor managers alike.
