About the Job

The Fife lab is looking for a Researcher Pro 1. This a temporary position for one year. Incumbent's responsibilities will involve the management and evaluation of experimental cellular therapies for diabetes using mouse models; this will include genotyping, drug preparation, drug delivery and dissection of mice upon trial completion. Incumbent will help use the data collected from these evaluation methods to initiate subsequent trials; assist in normal lab and mouse colony maintenance and organization; and perform other duties as assigned.

Job Duties:

  • Maintain unique transgenic and knockout stocks and strains of animals; responsible for maintaining breeding operations and records and interacting and collaborating with research staff; will participate in monitoring rodent populations by Flow Cytometry and diabetes assessment prior to and following treatments. (50%)
  • Perform research projects according to established protocols and following direction of PI to include: Tolerance experiments, diabetes assessment, plasmid transfection, drug preparation and administration, assist with antibody purification, assist with surgical procedures, and perform flow cytometry analysis. (10%)
  • Lab organization, supply ordering, lab cleaning, records keeping, solutions and equipment maintenance (30%)
  • Data collection and analysis. Prepare written and graphical descriptions of results to discuss with PI. Review scientific literature and technical documents. (10%)

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: (must be documented in all application materials)

  • B.S. or B.A. in biological sciences, related field, or education and work experience in biological science to equal a combination of 4 years.
  • Experience working with mice including handling mice in specific pathogen free (SPF) conditions and tissue sample collection.
  • Ability to harvest mouse tissues and sterile cell culture techniques. Mouse monitoring skills required include general animal health under normal conditions and following diabetes induction are also required.
  • Immunology research experience or course work with a passing grade is required. Substitute topics could be considered. Multicolor flow cytometry skills and experience is required.
  • The applicant must be able to interact professionally with all faculty, students and staff who utilize the facility.
  • Computer skills include word-processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation, preferably with Microsoft Office Software.
  • Excellent organizational skills, communication, and attention to detail is also required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Animal husbandry skills, data entry and database management are also preferred.
  • Experience with injections via IV, IP, and SQ immunizations and daily monitoring of diabetes in NOD mice using urine and blood glucose analysis and administration of insulin or saline. Other preferred skills include biological/cellular imaging, aseptic technique and assistance with surgical procedures. Ordering lab reagents, daily lab maintenance, and preparing solutions is highly desirable.
  • Flow cytometry analysis techniques are highly desirable.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: The starting salary starts $20.26 to $31.59, depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 100% appointment- temporary for 1 year
