| Essential Job Duties |
Join our team in a role that directly supports the safety, health, and wellbeing of our campus community. As a Building Safety Inspector, you'll play a vital part in maintaining safe, code-compliant facilities while collaborating with a wide network of partners.
What You'll Do
- Conduct annual inspections of assigned buildings to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal codes, as well as recognized safety standards
- Partner with key stakeholders-including NC DOI/OSFM, Facilities, Housing, and the City of Raleigh-to promote a safe and compliant campus environment
- Respond to fire and medical incidents on University property, providing care at the NC EMT-B level when needed
- Assist with hazardous materials response to support campus safety
- Contribute to housing inspections as program needs evolve
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule (one week at a time) to ensure continuous coverage
Must Have
- Advanced knowledge of the State building Code, NFPA Standards and NC DOI/OSFM expectations.
- Physical agility, the ability to do heavy lifting (up to 90 lbs.), enter into hazardous environments, ability to wear PPE, and be able to drive vehicles during an emergency
- Must have knowledge of properly handling Hazardous Materials, storage and use of, as well as related Federal, State, and University regulations, rules, and policies to include OSHA guidelines.
- Must have or obtain Hazardous Materials Operations PLUS certification or other consistent Haz-Mat training from other qualified state providers offering for certification in understanding of, and properly handling of, hazardous materials.
- Must be knowledgeable about how to conduct and assess equipment functionality for sprinkler testing.

| Other Responsibilities |
- Be willing to work assignments as necessary including athletics events and special assignments. Work with Housing staff and committees as deemed appropriate to ensure Housing units are properly inspected, students are properly educated in life safety procedures that are defined by the US Department of Education and/or Directors of University Housing and Fraternity & Sorority Life. This position requires the employee to wear a department furnished uniform according to policy. Other duties/responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the University Fire & Life Safety Manager.
- Serve in on-call rotation with other Fire & Life Safety staff
- Other duties/responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the University Fire & Life Safety Manager.

Qualifications
| Minimum Experience/Education |
Bachelor's degree in a Physical Science, Biological Science, Environmental Science/Engineering, Occupational Safety, Industrial Technology or related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Some positions may require additional training, certifications, or licensure. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

- Experience in fire inspections, Hazardous Materials Operations.
- Plus certification, fire alarm and fire sprinkler system testing.
- Advanced knowledge of N.C. fire code, building code, NFPA standards.
