Mission

Maintains and repairs equipment, vehicles, and/or facilities used for carrying out the operations.

Main Responsibilities

The Shop Apprentice supports the maintenance and repair of company-owned tools, vehicles, and equipment under the direction and guidance of an experienced Shop Foreman or Journeyman Mechanic. This is a hands-on learning position designed for individuals interested in building a career in the trades, mechanics, or heavy equipment. This role provides training, mentorship, and progressive responsibility as skills develop. This position may require travel to remote sites as needed while supporting other Southeast Road Builders projects.

Apprentice Responsibilities

(assigned and under the direction of the Shop Foreman or Journeyman Mechanic)

  • Assist with basic troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs of company-owned equipment
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on small tools, vehicles, and heavy equipment
  • Learn proper use of hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment
  • Assist with completing repair and maintenance records
  • Help organize and maintain shop facilities in compliance with safety and Colas 6S standards
  • Support parts receiving, inventory, and supply organization
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures while working in the shop or field
  • Receive ongoing training, mentoring, and performance reviews
  • Take on increased responsibilities as skills and experience grow
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Profile
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Interest in mechanics, welding, heavy equipment, or skilled trades required
  • Relevant coursework or hands-on experience may include (but is not required):
    • Welding
    • Automotive or Diesel Technology
    • Small Engines
    • Metal Fabrication
    • Construction or Industrial Trades
    • Shop Classes
