Job Description

As Project Engineer, you will have technical leadership responsibility to develop power conversion hardware for industrial motor drives. Besides architecting the design and developing specifications based on product requirements, you will lead project planning, and own resource management and execution. You will participate in technology roadmap development, and conduct research to qualify new components and sub-systems for future products. You will report to the Senior Manager of Hardware Development. You will work on-site in Mequon, WI.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design power hardware for AC motor drives - rectifiers/inverters, switch-mode power supplies, magnetics, voltage and current sensing, gate drivers, EMC filters, transient protection, and signal conditioning circuits
  • Apply simulation tools to model, design and troubleshoot complex power electronics circuits. Develop product simulation models to support field engineers and customer applications
  • Apply software tools to design high-voltage printed circuit boards observing engineering and manufacturing requirements
  • Troubleshoot complex field issues, and identify cause of failure
  • Follow technology advancements in power electronics, components, design and simulation tools, and application trends. Build relationships with vendors of critical components such as semi-conductors, magnetics, and capacitors
  • Apply global regulatory and certification standards on electrical and functional safety, EMC, and harmonics, which govern current product design and new applications. Participate in standards committees and stay up-to-date on trends that impact product design and compliance
  • Participate as a member of the hardware development team to promote innovation and continuous improvement to design processes, and to improve predictability and responsiveness of the team

The Essential Qualifications: You will have

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field.
  • Legal authorization to work in the US. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening

The Preferred - You Might Also Have:

  • M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, with specialization in Power Electronics
  • Proficiency in circuit-design and finite-element simulation tools for design of power converters and AC drives
  • 3+ years of experience with analog and digital circuit design for AC motor drives - protection circuits, gate drivers, feedback circuits, signal conditioning, switch-mode power supplies
  • Demonstrated experience with failure modes and troubleshooting subsystems and components of AC motor drives
  • Knowledge of PWM techniques, motor control algorithms, and application of rapid prototyping platforms for development
  • Demonstrated experience with application issues of AC drives and their mitigation methods - harmonics and power quality, motor insulation, common-mode currents, harmonic filters, dv/dt and sine-wave filters
  • Demonstrated experience with low- and high-frequency magnetics design - materials, electrical specification, construction - for AC motor drives
  • Knowledge of new power electronics technologies such as wide band-gap semiconductor devices, and topologies such as multi-level converters
  • Demonstrated experience with UL, CSA and CE standards and application to AC drives design (electrical safety, functional safety, EMC, energy efficiency, and sustainability)
What We Offer:
  • Health Insurance including Medical, Dental and Vision
  • 401k
  • Paid Time off
  • Parental and Caregiver Leave
  • Flexible Work Schedule where you will work with your manager to enjoy a work schedule that can be flexible with your personal life.
