Job Summary

The Hospital Laboratory Technician position supports the Stem Cell Transplant Program purpose through direct involvement in developmental processes related to scope of activities carried out in Hematopoietic Progenitor Cell Laboratory, participation in stem cell transplant procedures, and the performance of technical activities such as stem cell transportation, cryopreservation, and storage. This position requires an understanding of Quality Assurance principles with working knowledge of quality systems and active contributions to quality improvement initiatives to ensure compliance of HPCL with Food and Drug Administration, Foundation for Accreditation of Cellular Therapy, current Good Manufacturing Practices, State of California, College of American Pathologists and other regulatory agencies.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
  • 1 year in healthcare laboratory setting
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to actively contribute to quality improvement initiatives to ensure compliance of HPCL with the accreditation andlicensure requirements of the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT)
  • Skills required to follow standard operating procedures and quality assurance policies.
  • Ability to follow established corrective action policies and procedures.
  • Skills required for performing quality control, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting of HPCL equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and perform multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Skills related to biological specimen handling.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain records, documentation, and worksheets legibly and accurately.
  • Ability to participate in educational and or developmental projects.
  • Demonstrates ability to meet established turn-around-time and ability to organize and perform multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize/reorganize work based upon departmental turnaround time requirements and in response to STAT/Emergency requests.
  • Demonstrated ability to work accurately, follow instructions, schedules and timelines and handle multiple priorities.

Department Overview

The Hematopoietic Progenitor Cell Laboratory (HPCL), part of Combined Adult and Pediatric Stem Cell Transplant Program, is responsible for therapeutic stem cell processing occurring at the University of California, Davis Medical Center. All progenitor cell products processed by HPCL need to meet or exceed required FDA guidelines for potential use in human clinical studies, as well as compliance with the FACT-JACIE International Standards for Cellular Therapy Product Collection, Processing and Administration and other applicable governing agency regulations.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Must be able to work variable shifts as needed on weekends, holidays, must be able to work occasional overtime as required and respond to on-call requirements.
