Overview

The Budget Center facilitates uniform, strategic, and transparent budget processes across the University. The Budget Center is a service organization that provides information and analysis to decision makers, enabling them to align program priorities with resources. Staffed with full-time finance professionals, the Budget Center relieves schools and other units of most financial administration, thereby presenting these areas with opportunities to redirect staff effort or reduce costs.

What You'll Do

The Senior Budget Analyst will report to the Director of Budget Services and support the operation of the Office of Budget and Planning. The Senior Analyst will serve as a primary contact to schools/ units, consult with the Executive Administrative Dean and Program Managers, and provide guidance on budget development and monitoring.
The Senior Budget Analyst will develop budget and forecast packages for school/unit input and review, including the position roster and trend analyses. They will identify and resolve variances and deficits, keeping constituents informed about budget status, and document detailed budget plans containing rationale and supporting information. The Senior Budget Analyst will liaise with others across the University, including Local Research Administrators (LRAs), to receive input into budgets, forecasts, and rosters. Additionally, the Senior Budget Analyst will prepare summary analyses of assigned units, assist with questions regarding prior period variances, and measure/ report performance indicators to key stakeholders. This position will also act as steward for university resources and ensure the appropriate use and planning for gift and discretionary funds.
    • Provide timely, accurate and detailed information and advice so that decision makers at the school/unit are well equipped to make strategic financial decisions
    • Assist the Director of Budget Services in managing the day-to-day responsibilities of analysts, providing guidance and direction to deliver excellent service.
    • Leverage technology, including budget system, to drive standardization and transparency in budgeting process
    • Manage the baseline budget package development for Director and school/unit leadership review, performing analyses as required. Revise and update as necessary.
    • Identify, track and report out-of-budget cycle adjustments for approval.
    • Manage the process for developing funding and expense forecasts.
    • Assess budget performance by reviewing data, performing analytics and identifying and resolving variances
    • Ensure budgets and forecasts adhere to standards and guidelines set by the Finance and Planning Office of Tufts Finance Dept.
    • Perform ad hoc analysis as needed by Director and by clients
    • Develop reporting tools and implement reporting systems to meet client requests

Knowledge and experience typically acquired by:
  • Bachelor's Degree Knowledge and experience typically acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • 5+ years experience with budgeting and financial management
  • Demonstrated experience in relationship management and strong customer service focus
  • Demonstrated experience working with senior staff across an organization

Pay Range

Minimum $87,400.00, Midpoint $109,300.00, Maximum $131,200.00

Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
