SUMMARY The Plant Controller provides financial leadership to the Memphis Roofing & Asphalt Plant. This position reports directly to the plant leader with dotted line reporting to the manufacturing financial leader to drive results. The Plant Controller is responsible for maintaining a controls environment that complies with the Company's internal control policies and Sarbanes Oxley and oversees shipping operations. The Plant Controller will lead a team of 3 direct reports in purchasing, buying, raw materials and shipping/transportation. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Operations Planning
- Participates in the development of operational objectives for the plant that are aligned to Corporate and Division strategic objectives
- Leads proactive development of contingency plans, productivity improvement and corrective actions to ensure facility financial results and shareholder value are optimized.
- Accountable for executing operations plans timely in according to process
Financial and Operational Controls
- Ensures that there is an effective and efficient system of internal controls including data integrity, asset protection, segregation of duties, budgeting, financial reporting, information systems and adherence to corporate policies and governmental regulations (GAAP, SOX compliance, etc.)
- Drives a robust representation letter process that provides assurance and visibility to a sound internal control environment.
- Leads the Continuous Sign-off process to ensure that accountability for internal controls is clear and that processes are documented.
- Leads financial planning, budgeting and forecasting processes
- Prepares and delivers the plant financial forecasts and projections
- Monitors the plant's monthly closing process in conjunction with the Accounting team
- Communicates results effectively to management and non-financial personnel
- Provides in-depth analysis on variances to plan and forecast
- Provides risk analysis for contingency planning
Driving plant profitability
- Leads actions in line with achieving targets, mitigating risk and prioritizing resource needs
- Leads proactive development of contingency plans, productivity improvement and corrective actions to ensure facility financial results and shareholder value are optimized
- Provides insightful and competitive analytics that anticipate change and drive decision making
- Provides investment analysis
- Assists in contract evaluation and negotiation
- Educates plant personnel on key performance metrics
Cross-functional leadership and team contribution
- Works across organization boundaries and all levels of the company to achieve plant, division, and corporate objectives
- Shares best practices across division, i.e, process improvements, financial modeling, and procedure changes
- Aligns teams and resources to solve problems and drive results
- Provides support to team members at plant, segment, and corporate level
Leading and developing talent
- Creates an environment where talent is developed through effective performance management, talent evaluation systems and utilization of people.
- Acts as a resource to the non-financial leaders of the business providing education and training on the key principles of Finance
- Invests in the growth and development of identified talent in their organization.
- Ensures succession plans are executed for focus roles
Plant process and administrative leadership
- Leads controls process/compliance at third-party logistics warehouses and observes inventory counts as needed
- Assigns resources and provides support and direction
- Monitors and holds self and others accountable for safety
- Ensures delegation and successful completion of site security functions such as; managing/implementing OC security standards; quarterly assessments of security equipment; site contact for security audits and visits
JOB REQUIREMENTS EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or relevant discipline required
- 5 years of plant controller in a manufacturing environment
- Providing leadership to teams within a manufacturing organization - such as leading operations planning, savings, forecasting
- Delivering continuous improvement.
- Participating in the development of strategic plans
- Negotiating, developing, and evaluating customer and supplier contracts
- Attracting, developing and retaining outstanding talent-growing talent and succession planning.
- Operating in a range of economic conditions, i.e, expansion, contraction, stable economic conditions - forecasting, scenario planning, risk analysis, and contingency development.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong financial acumen with demonstrated analytical ability, knowledge of corporate finance and manufacturing costing principles - understands P&L and balance sheet dynamics
- Demonstrated ability to teach and communicate clearly and concisely
- Demonstrated ability to manage and control costs - effectively develops business cases and enrolls leaders to take appropriate action
- Demonstrated ability to develop deep knowledge of customers, competition, and market and uses this information to drive customer and product profitability
