Position Overview
This position is open only to current Academic Staff and Faculty members in the KU School of Pharmacy that hold rank of Associate or Full Professor (clinical, teaching, tenured). This position is not covered by any union agreement nor represented by United Academics of KU, AAUP, or AFT.

The Director for Recruitment & Admissions provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of all admissions and recruitment functions within the School of Pharmacy, including supervision of the Admissions and Recruitment Manager. The role is responsible for the design, implementation, and evaluation of recruitment initiatives, admissions processes, and outreach programming that support School enrollment goals. The Director supervises admissions and recruitment staff, ensures high-quality and compliant admissions practices, manages data stewardship and reporting, and serves as a liaison with multiple KU offices and external partners. The position also provides interpretation of admissions data and trends for leadership to guide decisions related to enrollment and accreditation needs.

This is a full-time, 12month, faculty position with some required travel. The position will work primarily on the KU Lawrence campus, with set in-person days and remote or hybrid flexibility aligned with recruitment needs and seasonal demands. Evening, weekend, and statewide travel are required based on the needs of the program. This is a 0.30 FTE Administrative / 0.70 FTE Faculty role. The individual will hold faculty rank and have teaching responsibilities within the School of Pharmacy. Appointment at the Associate or Full Professor (clinical, teaching, tenured) rank will be based on candidate qualifications and experience.

This position reports to Brad Newell, Associate Dean and serves at the Pleasure of the Dean of the School of Pharmacy.

Job Description
30% - Director of Recruitment & Admissions
The Director provides comprehensive leadership and direct oversight of the School's admissions and recruitment operations. In this capacity, the faculty member develops and evaluates recruitment and admissions strategies; manages systems, processes, and data; and ensures alignment between enrollment objectives, School priorities, and accreditation expectations. The position supervises admissions staff, maintains high-level internal and external partnerships, and directs communication and outreach efforts to support prospective student engagement.

Administrative expectations include:
  • Leading the design, implementation, and assessment of recruitment and admissions policies, procedures, and initiatives.
  • Overseeing day-to-day operations of the admissions and recruitment unit, including workflow management, personnel supervision, staff development, and annual performance reviews.
  • Providing stewardship of admissions and recruitment data, including ensuring data accuracy, monitoring trends, preparing cycle reports, and advising School leadership based on analyses.
  • Directing the development and evaluation of outreach programs and pipeline activities that support growth of the prospective student pool.
  • Serving as the School's primary liaison to KU offices such as, but not limited to, Admissions, Financial Aid, Undergraduate Studies, Jayhawk Advising, Registrar/Enrollment Management, International Admissions, Graduate Studies, and other relevant campus partners.
  • Collaborating with the School's Communication Manager and Program Directors to refine recruitment messaging, incorporate marketing strategies, and ensure accurate website and Slate CRM content.
  • Meeting with prospective or high-priority applicants and supporting consistent advising practices across the admissions continuum.
  • Participating in holistic application review, ensuring accuracy of documentation, and contributing to timely decisions.

70% - Current Faculty Appointment

45% - Teaching
The faculty member will coordinate, instruct, and complete assigned didactic teaching responsibilities within the School of Pharmacy. Teaching will primarily occur within the faculty member's disciplinary area and may include course coordination, lecturing, assessment, curricular development, and mentoring of students in accordance with School expectations.

10% - Research
Faculty are expected to maintain a program of research and scholarship. Responsibilities include establishing a scholarly focus, pursuing internal or external funding when appropriate, disseminating findings through peerreviewed publications of national or international stature, and presenting scholarly work at professional meetings.

10% - Service
The faculty member represents the School of Pharmacy at local, regional, and national recruiting or admissions events and contributes actively to the School by attending meetings and serving on assigned School or University committees. The faculty member also performs additional service activities consistent with the mission and needs of the School.

5% Other duties as assigned by the Dean

Required Qualifications
  1. Current faculty appointment in the KU School of Pharmacy at the Associate or Full Professor (Clinical, teaching, tenured) rank.
  2. Demonstrated effectiveness in pharmacy teaching across clinical and/or basic science content areas.
  3. Experience in recruitment, admissions, student affairs, sales/customer service, or related field.
  4. Minimum of two years of leadership experience supervising and directing others.
  5. Experience using databases or data systems.
