This position is responsible for laboratory charge capture including patient and interhospital account monitoring and charge review to ensure Alliance Lab, Reference Lab, and Specialty lab charges are captured and billed/invoiced correctly. Functioning in a key role within the Laboratory Billing Compliance Program, the Lab Billing Specialist is tasked with helping to identify non-compliant or erroneous billing patterns and escalating to the Lab Administrative Manager for subsequent evaluation and resolution.

This is a Full-Time, hourly position.



Responsibilities

    Work with the Administrative Manager, Fred Hutch Laboratory staff, and partner institutions to develop effective and compliant charge capture mechanisms and identify charge capture issues, escalating when patterns surface.
  • Maintain daily monitoring for all lab work queue and error pools to ensure that charge capture occurs appropriately (patient accounts and interhospital accounts), routing from lab LIMS (Sunquest) occurs without error, and communication on outcomes and feedback occurs with lab staff and the Administrative Manager.
  • Notify and communicate charge monitoring exceptions to the Lab Administrative Manager, Lab Program Assistant, Lab Processing Techs, Integrity office, and appropriate lab mangers and IT for specialty billing.
  • Collaborate with Fred Hutch Revenue Integrity Analysts and Decision Support regarding lab charge capture.
  • Escalate lab charge capture issues as needed to Lab Administrative Manager.
  • Assist Alliance Lab and specialty lab staff with understanding the impact operations has on billing activity; provide feedback and communicate billing processes as needed to ensure compliant billing occurs.
  • Work with UW Lab Medicine IT to resolve minor routing issues as they occur; escalate patterned errors to the Lab Administrative Manager for determining the proper route to resolution.
  • Abide by compliant billing practices.
  • Collaborate closely and frequently with departments and clinical staff on resolution of charge capture issues, as directed by the Lab Administrative Manager.
  • Other lab billing related duties as assigned by the Lab Administrative Manager.
  • Support Lab Administrative Manager on contracting, external labs, and other billing requests, as required.


Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma
  • 2 years of healthcare experience (billing, revenue cycle, compliance, and/or lab administration)
  • Working knowledge of registration, charge capture, and billing processes.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Excellent judgment and problem solving skills.
  • Understanding of CPT and medical terminology.
  • Effective communicator, able to navigate and discuss diverse charge capture and regulation subjects with various work/communication styles.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, identify problems and know when to escalate issues.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Knowledge of lab billing compliance.
  • Knowledge of lab processing, testing, and/or billing.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $29.77 to $42.39 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.
