JOB SUMMARY: The Crane Operator is responsible for moving a variety of granite materials and products with an overhead crane to coordinate flow of production through all departments. This includes the moving and turning over of over-sized and/or odd shaped product running through the production facility. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING: Remove any potential safety hazards from the production areas. Coordinate with multiple supervisors, crane operators and production personnel for work priority. Operate crane with correct belt, chain, sling, suction cup and/or turner based upon product being moved. Turn or roll large stones so that production personnel can complete the finishing process; includes, but not limited to roof stones, fountains, circles, odd-shaped stones, etc. Assist in loading a wide variety of machines; includes, but not limited to, polish lines, saws, wire saws, layout, mausoleum assembly, bundler, etc. Maintain an awareness of work being performed in various production machines to most effectively and efficiently plan for the movement of products. Move products to the correct machine, staging or shipping area when needed. Assist with unloading semi trailers or containers. Ensure granite placed on pallets for shipping is organized correctly by carrier and ship date. Label all shipping crates with the correct production ticket and order information. Coordinate with forklift driver to move pallets or scrap dumpsters as necessary. QUALIFICATIONS: Must obtain forklift certification (training and certification provided by Coldspring for all employees who may be required to operate a forklift). Ability to judge distances, heights, weights and surroundings (machines, personnel and other vehicles) to safely operate crane. General knowledge of stone tolerances to ensure safe movement of stone within the production areas. Ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another, to avoid interruptions in production. Ability to work independently, with little or no supervision. Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills, with an emphasis in time management, improving efficiencies and exercising independent judgment to determine work priority and urgency. Mechanically inclined and general math skills. Must be able to read work orders or production tickets, which may include dimensional drawings. Ability to read a tape measure, imperial and metric. Work as a self-motivated team member who adheres to all safety protocols and is willing to cross-train as needed.
