Situated within Student Health & Well-Being, the WRC works closely with Counseling Center and Student Health Center professionals to provide a wide range of opportunities for students to assess their well-being, develop effective strategies, and think critically, so they can enjoy thriving well-being. Our staff collaborate with campus partners, student organizations and students to develop and implement effective programs and services.

Job Description

Summary
The University of Missouri's Wellness Resource Center seeks a motivated, enthusiastic well-being advocate to serve as a Health Educator, focusing on holistic student well-being, health promotion, and prevention. This position plays a pivotal role in enhancing student health and engagement by addressing emerging public health concerns, including gambling and sports betting, as well as broader dimensions of student wellness. This multifaceted position serves as a catalyst for creating a healthier, more informed, and supportive campus environment. A successful candidate will have a passion for well-being, exceptional interpersonal skills, and a desire to help students succeed. The role will also serve as a liaison to Mizzou Athletics, supporting the well-being of intercollegiate and club athletes and contributing to data-informed initiatives such as the Missouri Athlete Wellness Survey (MAWS).

Essential Functions

  • Support development and implementation of a comprehensive strategy to increase the health and well-being of Mizzou students utilizing national best practice guidelines and contemporary research.
  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate educational programming, including outreach efforts, workshops, and trainings, focusing on health promotion, prevention, and emerging issues such as gambling and sports betting, as well as mental health, substance use, and help-seeking behaviors.
  • Develop and deliver targeted education and outreach for specific student populations, including student-athletes, fraternity and sorority members, and other high-risk or highly engaged groups.
  • Serve as a liaison to Mizzou Athletics and Mizzou Rec to strengthen collaboration and support holistic student-athlete well-being.
  • Oversee implementation and utilization of the Missouri Athlete Wellness Survey (MAWS) to inform programming, partnerships, and strategic priorities.
  • Provide consultation and training to professional staff within the campus community on student well-being topics, including emerging trends such as gambling behaviors.
  • Assist the Mizzou Healthy Community Coalition, comprised of campus and community stakeholders, to develop strategic priorities and environmental strategies aligned with student well-being and prevention.
  • Coordinate large programs, events, and trainings that promote a culture of wellness and student engagement.
  • Use relatable, evidence-based approaches to help students navigate their health behaviors and habits, promoting informed decision-making and positive outcomes through individualized and group-based well-being coaching.
  • Conduct small group and 1:1 education sessions with students on topics related to well-being, including gambling awareness, stress management, and overall health behaviors, incorporating coaching techniques to support behavior change.
  • Offer judgment-free, student-centered well-being coaching to support goal setting, motivation, and accountability, helping students build skills that enhance academic success, resilience, and overall well-being.
  • Identify innovative projects, marketing campaigns, and communication approaches to create a healthier campus environment.
  • Work closely with the Division of Student Affairs Marketing and Communications staff to develop and execute a communication plan for population-level health promotion messaging and outreach opportunities via social media and other avenues.
  • Collaborate with campus partners, including the Office of Student Accountability and Support, the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, and Athletics, to implement evidence-informed strategies that support student well-being and success.
  • Use relatable, evidence-based approaches to help students navigate their health behaviors and habits, promoting informed decision-making and positive outcomes.
  • Conduct small group and 1:1 education sessions with students on topics related to well-being, including gambling awareness, stress management, and overall health behaviors.
  • Offer judgment-free support and accountability to help students reach their well-being goals through well-being coaching.
  • Communicate and utilize data to inform partners and programs.
  • Work collaboratively with staff of the Wellness Resource Center and Student Health & Well-Being.
  • Serve on committees and other task forces as assigned.
Shift

Full-time, Flexible scheduling

This position may require evening and weekend hours supporting activities and programs within the department or division. Your core responsibilities will require a total commitment of 40 hours per week, but you will have the freedom to determine your daily start and end times to accommodate your personal needs and preferences, as well as the operational demands of the position. This unique work arrangement allows for a healthy work-life balance while accommodating the specific needs of our students.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related/relevant area or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a college health setting.
  • Master's degree in health promotion, health education, public health, or a related field.
  • CHES or MCHES certification.
  • Health & Wellness coach certification.
  • Excellent written & oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of student populations.
  • Strong organizational and program management skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Experience designing and implementing best practices prevention strategies.
  • Demonstrated success coordinating large programs, events, and trainings.
  • Strong understanding of youth culture and trends.
  • Experience informing marketing and social media campaigns and initiatives.
  • Experience with data collection and analysis.
  • Knowledge of current research related to problem gambling prevention and harm reduction best practices.
  • Experience with grant writing and management.
  • Experience working within the Fraternity and Sorority Life community, Athletics, and other sub-populations of college campuses.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Anticipated Salary Range: $55,000-$70,000 annually
