About the Role We are seeking an experienced *Coder I - Professional* to support inpatient hospital coding operations. This fully remote role is responsible for accurately coding and abstracting inpatient accounts in accordance with official coding guidelines, ensuring documentation supports appropriate reimbursement and quality reporting.
The ideal candidate has *strong inpatient facility coding experience*, preferably within *Level 1 or Level 2 Trauma environments*, and is confident coding *ICD10CM and ICD10PCS*. Productivity expectations are *16-17 charts per day*. *Location:* Fully Remote (Wisconsin, Missouri, or Oklahoma) *Employment Type:* FullTime Key Responsibilities * Assign accurate *diagnosis and procedure codes* for inpatient hospital accounts in accordance with official coding guidelines and clinical documentation. * Abstract inpatient records to ensure timely and accurate charge capture. * Collaborate with *Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI)* and quality teams to validate: * Medicare Severity DiagnosisRelated Groups (MSDRGs) * Patient Safety Indicators (PSIs) * HospitalAcquired Conditions (HACs) * Monitor assigned work queues to ensure records are completed within established turnaround times. * Generate *coding queries* to physicians when documentation clarification is required. * Stay current on *coding guidelines, conventions, and regulatory updates*. * Perform additional duties as assigned. Required Qualifications * *High School Diploma or GED* (or equivalent experience) * *Minimum of 2 years of inpatient coding experience* * *Experience with inpatient facility coding* strongly preferred * Exposure to *Trauma Level 1 or 2 facilities* is a plus * Strong knowledge of *ICD10CM and ICD10PCS* * *Ability to consistently meet productivity standards (16-17 charts/day)* * *Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in a remote environment* Required Certification Applicants must hold *one* of the following active credentials (issued by AHIMA or AAPC): * Certified Coding Specialist (*CCS*) * Certified Inpatient Coder (*CIC*) * Certified Professional Coder (*CPC*) * Certified Coding Associate (*CCA*) * Certified Coding Specialist - Physicianbased (*CCSP*) * Certified Outpatient Coder (*COC*) * Registered Health Information Administrator (*RHIA*) * Registered Health Information Technician (*RHIT*) * Certified Professional Coder - Apprentice (*CPCA*) Work Environment * Fully remote position (must reside in *WI, MO, or OK*) * All equipment and assets provided * Independent, productivitydriven role with collaboration across clinical and quality teams Why This Role? * Fully remote opportunity with provided equipment * Stable, productionfocused work environment * Exposure to complex inpatient cases and documentation * Opportunity to apply advanced coding expertise in a qualitydriven setting *Job Type & Location*This is a Contract position based out of Madison, WI. *Pay and Benefits*The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
