Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is seeking an experienced mid to senior level employment attorney for engagement through the firm's alternative-track contract attorney and staffing program, DWTSurge. The selected contract attorney will work with the Employment Services practice group handling demand letters and agency charge matters for the firm's institutional client. Attorneys must hold active bar admission in their state of residence and a state where DWT maintains an office. While this is a fully remote role, candidates located on the West Coast are preferred.

The selected resource will work directly with client teams, counterparties, and other stakeholders in support of a large institutional client. Attorneys should be highly organized with strong case management skills and will be required to regularly manage multiple matters with competing deadlines. Attorneys should be able to work independently and exercise good judgement, but should also collaborate easily with lawyers and support staff to meet discrete litigation objectives within short deadlines.

This contract position offers the flexibility of fully remote work and an anticipated 20-25 hours per week. Hours may fluctuate depending on the availability of appropriate work and are not guaranteed. The initial engagement will be for a six-month term. There is a possibility of an extension or renewal of the contract for successful candidates, although any extension or renewal is not guaranteed. We are looking for attorneys interested in establishing an alternative-track working relationship with the firm on an exclusive basis.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 5+ years of employment experience in a mid-large law firm or in-house setting.
  • Residency and active bar admission in one of the following states: AK, AZ, CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, IL, MD, MN, MT, NJ, NM, NY, OH, OR, PA*, TN, TX, VA, WA, and WDC, or WV. (*jurisdiction-specific). Active bar admission in a state where DWT maintains an office.
  • Residency and active bar admission in California, Oregon, or Washington preferred.
  • Strong experience managing employment matters, including demand letters and agency charges.
  • A demonstrated understanding of state and federal employment laws and regulations.
  • Experience representing client interests when meeting and conferring with various stakeholders, including opposing counsel.
  • Strong legal research skills.
  • Excellent legal drafting and communication skills, including oral and written advocacy.
  • Ability to distill research into meaningful and persuasive written work product, as well as to work meticulously to ensure work product quality.
  • High-level of responsiveness and client service abilities.
  • Availability to work from 20-25 hours per week remotely.
  • Flexibility for anticipated hours to fluctuate as needed.
  • Excellent writing skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to produce high quality work product with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Excellent proactive communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to maintain effective working relationships and communicate verbally and in writing, with clients, firm members, and other business contacts.

Please note that this is a temporary contract position managed by DWT's flexible attorney program, DWTSurge. Compensation will be paid on an hourly basis, commensurate with experience and skill level (see below). This role is not eligible for benefits. Due to the structure of the DWTSurge program, DWTSurge employees are not eligible for the firm's pro bono, DEI, and other activities or opportunities outside of the above stated scope of work. Salary Range
The hourly range for this position in CA, IL, MD, MN, NY, OR, WA, and WDC is $135 to $150 per hour. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
