Associate Health Outcomes Researcher - One Year Temporary Appointment

Position Overview:

The Associate Health Outcomes Researcher will provide insights into human behavior, experiences, and interactions within the healthcare system and associated interventions, ultimately contributing to the development of effective strategies and policies to improve health. This position will work on various projects across the Center for Learning Health System Sciences, providing primarily qualitative research skills for furthering health services research findings and associated clinical implementations.
The ideal candidate for this position will be familiar with a range of qualitative methods; ethically minded; collaborative with various stakeholders, and adaptable to handle multiple projects. Problems encountered are varied and typically involve substantial planning to resolve. Decisions are guided by selecting from alternatives. Will rely on the Health Outcomes Researcher for advanced guidance and alignment of daily decision-making.

This position follows UMN Work. With Flexibility. guidelines. Currently, the position will be primarily working from home. There may be occasional needs to be on campus and over time there may be a need to set a regular schedule for a few days on campus each week. Work hours should follow a regular schedule between 7-5, M-F.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

65%: Conduct health outcomes research

• Study Design
  • Assist in planning and conducting research studies focusing on healthcare access, quality, costs, and outcomes to solve real-world healthcare delivery challenges.
  • Incorporate patient partners in the development and evaluation of the research.
  • Understand existing knowledge related to research topics through literature review and consultation with the Evidence Synthesis program.
  • Guides study design development with requesters to establish clear project scope and methods design to collect and analyze relevant data.
• Data Collection
  • Use methods such as interviews, focus groups, observations, and surveys to gather qualitative and quantitative data from patients, healthcare providers, and other relevant participants.
• Data Analysis
  • Analyze collected data to uncover patterns, trends, and insights using qualitative techniques and statistical and analytical software tools.
• Ensure all research activities comply with ethical standards, particularly regarding patient confidentiality and informed consent.

25%: Dissemination of research results

• Write detailed reports including publications and present findings to collaborators, including healthcare providers, policymakers, and other researchers, to establish significance to the area of research.

10%: CLHSS Research Operations

• Stay Updated: Keep abreast of developments and methodologies in health outcomes and health services research domains.
• Support other research and project staff to meet deadlines.
• Other tasks as assigned

Required Qualifications:

• BA/BS with at least 5 years of relevant experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least 9 years
• Familiarity with a range of qualitative methodologies and theoretical frameworks
• Strong ability to analyze and interpret qualitative data
• Experience conducting interviews and/or focus groups
• Experience with qualitative data analysis software (e.g., NVivo, Atlas.ti)
• Ability to work independently, as a part of a team, and with changing priorities
• Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills, in particular for research dissemination via manuscript drafting
• Proficient with Google and Microsoft Office suite
• Commitment to positive team dynamics, client satisfaction, and creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with clinical and/or translational research
• Familiarity with implementation science frameworks
• Experience developing interview guides, focus group guides, and observational notes
• Experience with regulatory aspects (e.g. IRB and FDA) of conducting clinical research
• Experience at the University of Minnesota
• Healthcare subject matter expertise or experience working in a healthcare system
• Experience working on federally funded projects
• HIPAA & CITI Training
• Proactive, self-starting work ethic

The Center for Learning Health System Sciences is a one-of-a-kind partnership between the Medical School and School of Public Health with a goal to decrease the time it takes for science to make it from the lab to the clinic in pursuit of better health outcomes for the patients we serve. Pay Range: $34.13-$38.46 per hour ($71,000-$80,000 annually); depending on education/qualifications/experience
